My mold lesson for the today, or what MOLD means to me!

By

Today, a buyer I have been working with called and wanted to see a property he had driven past.

I qiuckly printed out the listing and noticed this phrase in the comments section:

"Screen buyers for sensitivity to mold before showing"

Thanks for the warning!

I headed over to the local HOME DEPOT and bought paper booties, rubber gloves and facial respirators for my buyer and me.

When I opened the door, things didnt look too dire, but then I noticed the black "faux finish" on the walls, floors and ceilings, this place was covered in mold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: mold is mold is mold!

I actually sold a house where the entire basement was covered in mold.  My buyers were in the home improvement business and knew what kind of work was involved in mold removal.   Not for the everyday buyer though.

10 years ago I would have thought you were crazy!   I showed a property a fews year back with mold decor in the basement and was sick for three weeks afterwards.  And I'm not all that sensitive.

I have a property that I will be listing in the next few months. It is a bank sale and is full of mold. The bank says they are having work done to prepare the proporty for sale. What kind of work do they mean? What types of companies do this type of thing? What should I be asking for in order to assure clients and other agents that it is now 'clean'?
