Things to do in Middle Georgia this Summer, Part IV

This installment picks up the pace a little and was created with adrenaline junkies in mind.  If you have nerves of steel or just like to have some serious fun, both parents and kids alike will find something they enjoy on this list.  All events/venues are within 2.5 hours of middle Georgia so there's no excuse not to make a day of it while summer is still here.

Things to do in Middle Georgia - Courtesy of your Warner Robins RealtorScreaming Eagle Zip Line Canopy Tours, Whitesburg GA - With over 7 miles of zip lines, some reaching speeds of 60 miles per hour, as well as challenge lines, canopy zips, traverses, and other cool aerial highlights this is the ultimate thrill seekers adventure.  This is challenging, and you will exert yourself, so anyone with physical limitations will want to call for details before making the trek to NW Georgia.  Other amenities include birds of prey shows, hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, skeet shooting, and even a spa to rejuvenate after a full day of fun.  Prices vary so call (770) 834-9149 for the latest information.

Skydive Atlanta, Thomaston GA - The old saying, "why jump out of a perfectly good aircraft", doesn't apply here.  Everyone gets the opportunity to capture some air by jumping at 14,000 feet, free-falling at 120 miles per hour for over a minute, then catching your breath for the next 5+ minutes as you slowly descend back to Terra Firma.  All first-time skydivers must jump tandem with an instructor.  There are age and weight restrictions so please call or email at (800) 950-JUMP or info@skydiveatlanta.com.

Tybee Island, Tybee GA - This place has family fun written all over it.  Whether you like to frolic in the surf, people watch as you tan, shop for local treasures, or just hang out, Tybee is the place to be on a hot summer day.  If sitting still isn't your thing, rent a jet ski, kayak, canoe, or parasail and hang ten up and down the coast.  Just 25 minutes from River Street, an excursion to historic Savannah provides an outlet for fantastic cuisine, nightlife, and old world charm.

Things to do in Middle Georgia - Courtesy of your Warner Robins RealtorChattooga River Whitewater Rafting, Clayton GA - With class II-IV rapids, the river is both a scenic trip through the forest and a mouth dropping, fist clenching ride for the ages.  It's impossible to stay dry, so be prepared to get drenched.  This is about as close as you'll ever get to guaranteed fun for the entire family.  Be part of the 40th anniversary celebration by calling (800) 868-7238 for rafting options, specials, and other details.

The Appalachian Trail, Springer Mountain GA - Lace up the hiking boots, slide into the backpack, and have your camera handy for some of the most breathtaking views you'll ever want to see.  If you're real adventurous, make it a long weekend and walk the entire 75.6 miles of the trail that winds eastward through Georgia.  The trail is well marked and both water and bathroom spots are periodically available.  Request more information by contacting the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club via email at webmaster@georgia-atclub.org.

With summer in full swing, it's time to put a little adventure into your life and enjoy all that Georgia has to offer.  Be on the lookout, the next installment of Things to do in Middle Georgia is coming soon...

This is a fantastic list and series, Anita.   No way to have a boring summer in middle Georgia if you take your suggestions.

WOW!  You are getting into the "hard core" stuff now!!  I would choose whitewater rafting this weekend if I lived in the area :)

Hi Anita, We just spoke with a client who said she will never go whitewater rafting again and she was only in her early 30's. That must be some exciting adventure ~ Great list again in your series.

BTW, did you see Barbara Hensley blog post today?

Enjoy your holiday weekend!

Anita- came over after Barbara's great post highighting you!  And I can see what she meant.  These are such good ideas for anyone looking for something to do in Georgia.  I bet there are a lot of residents who are saying... "I didn't know that was here."

Tish...young or old, it's great to keep the body moving.  No doubt all of the options in this weeks post will keep the ticker pumping.

Joan...Tybee is a lot of fun and really close by too so it's a very inexpensive day-trip for penny-wise consumers.

Thanks Will...I'm so appreciative of Barbara's tribute.  ;-)

Renee...trying to mix it up a little to give some variety.  The only no-go on the list for me is the skydiving.  Everything else I have either done, will do again, or am going to do this year.

Roy...I'm going to do a little hiking this year, but won't even make the full Georgia trek so walking to Maryland is definitely out. HA!

Larry/Sheila...Whitewater rafting is a hoot!  Pure excitement.   Yes, saw Barbara's post...she's amazing!

Congratulations on the 300K, Anita. Wasn't 200-300 easier than 0-100? Very comprehensive list of great things to do!

Kathy...surprisingly (to me anyway), you are right.  Funny how you can live someplace but not know all it has to offer.  Hopefully this series will spur a little activity from the couch potatoes.  ;-)

Thanks Toni.  It was easier, but probably because I blog everyday now.  It also helps that I have a small but faithful group of commenters most days to provide a few extra points.
