Discount Brokerages

I am curious as to what others are seeing in the market in relation to Discount Brokerages such as the Help-U-Sell's or other discounters or MLS only providers. Are you noticing any of them closing their doors yet?

I wasn't an agent back in the 80's, but my understanding is that many discounters walked away from their listings and closed their doors because they could no longer pay their bills in the 80's decline of real estate. I am curious if we will see this occur here in the next couple of years as well.

If you work for a discounter, how is business for you? Have you noticed the change in the market affecting your business at all?

Hi Patrick,

In NH we are seeing that smaller agencies are now calling larger agencies to see if they will acquire them. When we had the boom the smaller agencies said NO.

What we are seeing is that there are fewer agents entering the business. My wife's blog refers to this.

Discount brokers may soon leave the business or rethink their business model.

Not only in the late 80's but also in the late 70's smaller agencies that discounted their services also leftor merged.

Thanks Jay
