San Diego: Best Places to Watch 4th of July Fireworks

San Diego is a huge county, 70 miles long from the Mexico border to Orange County.  Over three million people call San Diego County home.  And, during the 4th of July 3 day weekend we will play host to over one million tourists.  To keep everyone happy we have many fantastic fireworks display planned.  Following is a list of some of the fireworks extravaganzas scheduled for the 4th of July in San Diego County:

4th of July in San Diego 2011

 

San Diego:

The Big Bay Boom: 7/4/2011 9 PM  This will be, by far, the largest fireworks display west of the Mississippi.  Other than possibly New York I believe it will be the biggest in the country.  The Big Bay Boom will be celebrating it's 11th year on the 4th of July.  Downtown San Diego expects 850,000 people will be watching from all over downtown.  Many barges full of vibrant, colorful fireworks will be expertly choreographed to create an amazing display.  The barges will be located on Harbor Island, Shelter Island, Coronado Ferry Landing, Imperial Beach, Embarcadero North and Embarcadero South.  Tune in your radio to the Walrus FM 105.7 because they will be providing the music for this event.  Fox 5 San Diego will be the local station to watch.  In addition to the awesome fireworks display there will be a big party starting at 4 PM at the Hilton Bayfront Park!  Click this link for more info on The Big Bay Boom.

La Jolla:

La Jolla Cove Independence Day Concert followed by Fireworks: Ellen Browning Scripps Park 1133 Coast Blvd., La Jolla, Concert starts at 5PM, fireworks at 9PM.  Bring your blanket and a picnic basket, enjoy the gorgeous scenery, a free concert and an amazing fireworks show!

Birch Aquarium At Scripps, Friends for Fireworks: Birch Aquarium 2300 Expedition Way, 6:30 to 9:30PM, Members Free, Guests with paid admission, information (858) 534-5771, Celebrate the (sea) stars and stripes and enjoy Fourth of July at Birch Aquarium. Enjoy panoramic views of fireworks over La Jolla Cove from the Tide-Pool Plaza. Bring picnics and comfortable seating. All exhibits will be open for viewing. Introduce your friends to Birch Aquarium at Scripps during this special membership event.

Ocean Beach:

32nd Annual OB Fireworks Off The Pier: 9PM The fireworks will be shot off at the foot of the pier.  There will be a radio simulcast on SOPHIE 103.7, make sure to tune in!

Coronado:

Fireworks: 9PM over Glorietta Bay

Parade along Orange Ave: 10AM 1st Street to Churchill Place, this is the 63rd annual Coronado Independence Day Parade and this year's theme is "An American Pageant".   You can set stake out your spot to watch the parade at 5AM (no earlier).

Art In The Park: 8AM to 4PM Art Show in Spreckles Park, 6th & Orange

Old Town:

Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, Historic 4th of July Celebration: 4002 Wallace Street, 11:30 to 4PM Step back in time, experience the excitement of an old fashioned 1800s Independence Day as we raise the historic 28 star flag at 12:00 p.m. Relive bygone wagon rides, games, activities, cake walks, compete in pie eating and cherry pit spitting contests, sack races, bucket races, egg toss, and cow chip throwing to name a few.

Rancho Santa Fe:

Parade, All-American Style Bar-B-Que and Picnic, Concert on The Green: Rancho Santa Fe Community Center Avenida de Acacias, Parade starts at 1PM

Mission Bay:

Mission Bay Yacht Club, Fireworks Display and Boat Show: 1251 Carmel Place, Fireworks 9PM

Sea World: 500 Sea World Drive, Fireworks 9:30 approx.
