Silent Sunday (Almost) - A snowman... In July! Summer oh summer, wherefore art thou summer?

Yeah...  while the rest of the country is baking, out here in California we have yet to see summer.  In fact, this weekend I think is the first sign that summer is here.

My son and I are in Lake Tahoe, and for some strange reason I brought his snow boots.  The weatherman said a high of 50 and a low of 35 or so during the middle of the week...  So when we got here, it was ironic that there was still snow!

Snowman in July

I know it's not the biggest snowman that you have ever seen...  But it was my son's first!  We do not ever get snow in Saratoga.  Well, we did this winter, but it was like someone threw flour on the floor...

Squaw Valley

Now the snow wasn't all over the ground, but it was still in the shadows, the cracks, and under trees.  This snowman was 50 steps from our door.  We had fires three of the nights, since it would get soooo cold at night.  Usually it is hot hot hot this time of year in Squaw Valley.

The day we leave, it is expected to be really hot...  We still made the best of it and had a great time!

In fact, 4 ski lifts were up and running at Squaw Valley today!  People were skiing in bikinis and trunks!

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Chris, Can't say I expect snow in July....although once as a kid at my grandfathers in West Virginia it snowed July 4th weekend...just bizarre! :)  Bill

Chris - Can you believe it!  They are actually skiing at Kirkwood Meadows ski resort.  I understand there are a few other places near Tahoe that are open for the 4th.  A rare event brought on by record snows this season.

Okay, Chris, where's his flag for the 4th? How very weird is that: skiing on July 4th. Have a great weekend!

That was Ryan's first snowman??? That is great! I love the smiley face on him... He is just missing a cowboy hat and he would be complete! :) I'm happy you and him are having a great time, enjoy the rest of your weekend and be safe driving home!

My family was up in Plumas county 2 weeks ago and there was still 4 feet of snow blocking the road to Gold Lake.  I totally get the whole snow in July thing.  Glad you're having fun up there.

Snowmen in July, it really is crazy isn't it? I hope you and your family had a wonderful weekend up at Tahoe! You get the best of both summer and winter seasons, snow skiing and skiing behind a boat! Love this area.

Chris, your snowman reminded me of touching snow first time in my life in Vancouver.

Chris, that's a welcome sight actually!  We've been baking here in summer heat... so this snowman looks pretty "cool" to me!  Happy Fourth!

Chris that is too funny.  I know you get snow in California but in my mind I think of only good weather when I think of your state.   I hope you had a great time with your son,

Good morning, Chris. My daughter lives in Mt. View and she said before she left to come visit, it was cooler than normal.

BTW, when they get ready to buy I'll turn them on to you. It will be awhile. I'll put another bug in their ear...

It isn't often here in the Pacific NW and see both Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood both pretty much still covered in snow.
