Residents of coastal California areas moist enough for redwoods are very familiar with this critter. UC Santa Cruz has adopted it as the school mascot. It's no match for the gators, lions, and tigers of other schools, but fierceness matters less than humor to UCSC students. I'm proud to present this shingle climbing...banana slug.
