It doesn't feel like July 4 without the fireworks....

It WAS a special treat to watch a fireworks display on July 4. Even today, it's still a thrill IF you can find one  just as goodas what we remember

In the Bay Area, CA,  it seems that it's a major challenge to find fireworks display without paying to be on a venue, or battle the traffic.

CBS San Francisco provided a long list of July 4 celebrations -- -but what is worth noting is when it qualifies each event that has or does NOT have fireworks.

For example

ALAMEDA  Monday, July 4. Alameda's 4th of July Parade at 10 a.m. is the 2nd longest Independence Day parade in the nation. It's followed by a festival, but NO FIREWORKS.

One can pay to be on some kind of venue where you can watch fireworks,. as the planned celebration aboard the USS Hornet in Alameda where ont can view the Bay Area fireworks. But our nearest neighbor, Oakland, isn't going to have fireworks. So what can one see? Glimmers of flashing and flickering firewaords from a distance

BERKELEY Monday, July 4. Celebration at Berkeley Marina from noon to 10 p.m. with live entertainment, food, arts & crafts, kids playground and pony rides. FIREWORKS  at 9:30 p.m. off the end of the Berkeley Pier.

But note that the street will close at 7 and won't reopen until 10:30 pm. Expect a helish traffic jam unless you ride your bike or take a shuttle (which will also be caught in that traffic)

OAKLAND Monday, July 4. NO FIREWORKS display over Jack London Square again for 2011, but the city is still hosting a fun daytime event for families with a petting zoo, art activities for the kids, carnival games and bike, canoe and kayak rentals.

Come early if you want to get a parking space. Or be smart, take the bus

It seems like the best fireworks display is one you watch on TV, in the comfort of your home (or at a party),

I can't/won't/don't recommend firing your own illegal stash of fireworks.

But gosh...it just doesn't feel like July 4 without foreworks, does it?

Like many counties in California, fireworks have been banned for private use. Luckily there are venues that we can see them. You are right, its not the 4th of July without the fireworks Pacita.

We have two Maine fireworks sessions. One smaller one over the river during Midnight Madness Friday night. The big kahuna all our bombs, er I mean fireworks bursting in air tonight. Getting redy for parade with little leaguers, soap box derby car drivers and rain just stopped. Time to get that operation going.

At least we still have our parades. In our small island of Alameda, we have the 2nd longest parade in the nation. An old-fashioned parade that's fun for everyone

Fireworks over Lake Tahoe when I was a kid.  Then, fireworks over Donner Lake in the High Sierra's. The best and biggest display over the water..... with music!   Great time for all...esp. the kids!
