Music Under the Stars - July 4th Concert and Fireworks!
If you live in Rockland County NY, then you are lucky enough to have The West Point Military Academy practically in your backyard. Every summer they sponsor a concert series of Music Under the Stars. These are weekly concerts held at the Academy and the best part of all is that they are FREE. What better way to celebrate July 4th then to do it with those that train to protect and maintain our freedom and everything that this country stands for.
If you've never been to West Point, you're in for a treat. The grounds are spectacular; it's worth the trip just for the views from Trophy Point. The concert and fireworks are just an added bonus. At this evenings concert the Concert Band is scheduled to perform some great American pieces and then the Academy's popular music group, the Benny Havens Band will perform.
If you're planning on going, make sure to get there early,. The security is pretty tight and you'll need to allow extra travel time for the vehicle and photo ID inspections at the gates (every car gets checked, no exceptions). Remember to bring photo ID.
You can check on the security requirements at West Point by calling the Academy Band’s hotline at 845-938-2617 before leaving for the concert. You can aslo get the latest information about their performance schedule (both at the academy and elsewhere) there.
The concert is scheduled for 8:00pm at the Trophy Point Amphitheater followed by fireworks and will end at approximately 10:00pm.
