As the time at your current assignment ends, your assignment / branch manager should ask you where you’d like to head next.  Many variables, such as the needs of your service, play into the assignment process.  But given your wishes, the Colorado Springs area is a great first choice to make!  My husband and I like to believe we have a say in the matter and sometimes we actually do! As we near reassignment we start thinking about all the wonderful-- and not so wonderful-- places the military can send us next. The one place that is always on the top of our list is Colorado Springs.  There are opportunities here for all of the services.  The majority of military personnel in the area are from the Army (Fort Carson) and Air Force (Air Force Academy, Peterson AFB and Schriever AFB).  However, members of the Navy, Marines, and even the Coast Guard can be assigned to NORTHCOM, a joint command headquartered at Peterson AFB.  We have been blessed two times with orders to the “The Springs”.

Some of the many reasons we love the area are:

  • Views of the mountains from anywhere in the city
  • Moderate summer weather and cold, snowy winters
  • Low humidity!!!
  • Affordable cost of living
  • Great school districts
  • Tremendous amount of outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, rafting, rock climbing, horseback riding, and many more
  • Friendly neighbors and great neighborhoods!

And most importantly……………the wonderful support the local community gives members of the military!!

Aloha Kristen-I love the way you say that the assignment / branch manager will ASK you where you want to go next.  Where were those people at during my 22 year Army career????  I guess I served during the time that the Army said...."Kucic, shut up and go to Germany, Ft. Sill, Ft. Hood"  It is nice to know the Army is being more friendly with their assignments nowadays.  Good luck getting back to the Springs someday.  It was always our number one choice (until we got sent to Hawaii :))

GO ROCKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to Welcome you to AR!  From Mariana's post it would appear that you're already aware of the power of AR.  Great post here and I'm sure there will be many more to come.  Best of Luck.

David -We are back in Colorado Springs! In the last 14yrs of my husband being active duty, he has always had some sort of preference list. It doesnt  always mean you get what you want; however, we have always been very blessed with getting what where we wanted. He has been on a different career path than most for awhile.  This PCS to Colorado Springs was a complete shock as we though we were going to end up where we didnt want to go....Miami! (sorry, no offense to those Miami agents!)

Matt - Oh yes! I do know the power of AR and it seems around Mariana and I's neck of the woods, there arent many who do  OR they dont want to compete with our local AR Queen!  Thanks for the welcome, Matt.

Since we are military also, its a perfect fit for my business. No one knows the military like someone else in the military! :) By the way, I really like Las Vegas as well. We havent been in a while and its about time for a road trip.
