So you want to be a ROCK STAR in your industry? What can we learn from Elvis that would propel us to success and "stardom" within our industry - whether it be real estate, mortgage lending, appraiser, or attorney?
On this day in 1954, Elvis Presley had his first commercial recording session in Memphis, Tennessee, where he recorded "That's All Right, Mama". Some regard this moment as the true beginning of the rock-and-roll revolution and set Elvis on the path to stardom.
Here's some thoughts about Elvis that we could implement into our businesses:
#1 - Be true to yourself. Elvis was an ORIGINAL! He had a unique style and was not trying to conform to amy previous patterns! Even amidst criticism, he was true to HIMSELF. Are you an original? Or, are you always trying to be like someone else? BE TRUE TO YOURSELF! Be the individual you were created to be - even if you are s a little DIFFERENT.
#2 - Be passionate. Oh yeah! Elvis was passionate! He not only knew how to be himself, but he did it with enthusiasm and no boundaries! People are drawn to individuals who are on fire for what they are doing! Are you passionate about your business, your clients, your services? Or is it just a boring "job" to you? People know when you truly care from the depths of your heart - or if you are just "going through the motions"
#3 - Be a risk-taker. Sometimes it's risky to step out there and be a little "different". Maybe you are the only professional in your town who utilizes Social Media, or the only professional in your area of expertise active on Active Rain! Good for you!
You may be criticized for spending time writing articles, blogs and e-zines for consumers and fellow professionals, and told that it might be more profitable to be spending your time with "real" work. BUT you believe in what you are doing - and the path you are taking. You think there is value in being the expert and giving back. If you are trying to do something new, bold or different, not everyone will like you or your ideas. Get over it!
Go on! Be a rock star! We need you! If you are being authentic passionate, and you are willing to take the risks of cricisim, you WILL encounter some criticism and maybe even some controversy. Remember, no one is universally accepted! Not even Elvis! But, "....that's all right, Mama...."!
