The heat of summer is here and air conditioning units are running what seems to be around the clock here in the Austin area. In an effort to keep cool, the energy bills usually take a big hit on the budget during the summer months. Trees that are placed properly in your yard can save you up to 30%, according to U.S Forest Service Center for Urban Forest Research.

Trees are the perfect thing to provide natural cooling shades in summer and to block those blistery cool winds of winter. If you choose to plant a tree, place a deciduous tree on the east and west sides of your home to help keep it cool in the summer, and to allow sunlight in during the winter. Both of these benefits will reduce energy use, in turn lowering your electric bills.
