Keeping up with the Newbies, or not so New ActiveRain Members
This morning, as I was reading my email, I found Notifications of "Spam Comments" on
some of my older posts. I don't usually look at my older posts, but some of these I had written during the 31 Days of January Challenge.
Many of us did the challenge, and I truly felt like I had made many new Friends here at AR. I didn't subscribe to all of them, but I tried to read their posts and keep up with them.
Today, as I was deleting the spam, I saw some of their faces and realized that I actually WASN'T keeping up with them. I was Neglecting them actually.
I went to the last post I wrote in January What do you Say at the End of an Incredible Month of Blogging and re-read the comments. Many of the commentors were relatively new to AR. Many I really got to know in January.
Today I have been going to their blogs to see how their blogging had changed these past 6 months. Some took off like horses out of the start gate, and others did a couple posts in February and March and have basically quit blogging. I hate to see that. It's taken me over 2 hours to write this post because I've been commenting on their posts to let them know that I'm thinking about them. I want to encourage them.
What are YOU doing to encourage the Newbie Bloggers?

Hi Connie, I think it's great to reach out to help Newbies. I have gained so much knowledge since I joined this year, and it's great to be able to give back. Like others, I will sometimes go looking for a few newbies to encourage and help. This is a nice post to re-blog today.
Kathy - It can be a full time job! I don't keep up with everyone either. If each of us does just a little, it'll go a long way!
Anna - I only had the group for a month. You're their fearless leader ALL the time. It's hard to reach out to them in your group AND keep up with everyone else!
Peter and Linda - Technically, we're all part of a social club. It's hard to go into a big room full of people where most seem to know each other and you don't know anyone. You can stand on the sidelines, you can shout out loud to see if you can get their attention, or you can just slowly try to mingle and hope they'll accept you.
Rob - I still don't blog everyday. I try to post 3-5 times a week. What I like to see is people encouraging the Newbies by trying to comment on their posts and offering encouragement. You're doing it the right way! Good job!
Rosalie - This is how we build relationships! You're doing a great job.
David - Thank you. We all do a little self promotion. :)
Louise - Welcome! I'm delighted that you've had a good experience so far and I'm looking forward to reading your posts.
Suzanne - Thank you! Taking the Webinars is going to help you a lot. If there is anything you have questions about, feel free to call or email me!
Carla - It's just my nature to be that way. I come and go too. We have to do our jobs and maintain a life!
Connie, I always make time to comment to great posts, specially if it is from a new AR member. It is a great feeling that AR members are so welcoming and always have an extra hand to help one another. You did a great job on this post!
Connie what a good post. I try to comment as much as I can, but sometimes time does not permit and when I find an interesting comment I go to their blogs, it is fascinating to read. I am also trying to go to posts that I do not subscribe to there are so many. Thanks again.
Kathy - I'll go check out your blog and shoot you an email.
Cindy - You know how much it means to know someone read your post and commented.
Tammie - You're absolutely right! It's a job getting good posts up. But So is prospecting! Got to do it!
Larry and Shelia - I see the same thing. Often they don't spend enough time here to see that, that is how you develop the relationships.
Renee - I go through those cycles myself. For the most part, I try to keep up with my comments. Sometimes when I get a feature, I only reciprocate to the people that I don't have relationships with. I figure the others know I have a bazillion comments on blogs to make.
Virginia - I do the same thing. Though I only do it from my laptop.
Patricia - Now THAT is very nice. I've commented and then sent an email with an offer to help.
Donna - We all go through those periods. It was like that when I moved and had so much on my plate!
Gretchen - I don't know how long you've been blogging, but it takes time and committment. You probably didn't sell a lot of Real Estate when you first started either. There's a learning curve.
Joni - I guess I should subscribe to more of them. It seems like my list is already so long!
Kristine - "Comment luv, its simple and supportive." LOVE IT!!
Stephen - It's hard to keep up sometimes. We can just do the best we can.
Jerry - You've really taken off this year. I've been impressed with your progress!
Rob - Yes, it's very welcoming!
Mary - You could stay here all day and still not get to them all!
Hi Connie:
I did the May challenge and was very diligent on leaving comments on posts everyday. I must confess I have not been as diligent since the challenge ended but have made a few connections. I think all we can do is keep at it and not give up. I admire the bloggers that are so dedicated that they have multiple posts all the time, well at least I have something to aspire to.
There are Newbies and Re-Newbies! Personal issues took me out for a while but I'm happy to be back! Thanks for the great post!
Jennifer - I did the May challenge too and it was too much for me. I wasn't getting in the type of posts that I really like to focus on. I wrote this for me as much as for everyone else. It's so easy to lose people from not keeping in touch.
Lisa - You're exactly right! The Re-Newbies need our support as much as anyone. Welcome back.
☂ Connie, I'm late to the partee and add my congrats on such a great post and the well deserved
... I saw Jerry's reblog this morn. YOU my friend are always thinking about the 'others'! Thanks the reminder for all of us to keep reaching out. It means so much!
Pamela
Pam - Thank you! I have my moments! :)
Connie, you are truly "paying it forward"! Being featured is well-deserved. Thank you for stopping by my blog and encouraging me today. I really appreciate it!
Wendy - I remember reading your posts in January. You did so well and I want to help you continue it!
Hi Connie,
Thanks for stopping by my blog to check in! I have slacked off on the blogging a bit. I've been a bit busy with real estate. I am trying to get myself back to at least blogging once a week though. Have a great weekend!
Mel - it's so easy to do. Once you stop for a while it's hard to get started again. Been there!
