Is Your Home Dry?

Services for Real Estate Pros with Bowerman Restoration | Water Mold Fire Smoke Damage Repair

Today is really turning out to be a beautiful one here in Westchester county. Its definately the kind of day where you open up all the windows in the house and air it out. We are still busy drying out homes from the storms we had a few weeks ago. I thought I might mention that if anyone had some water damage in their home and its starting to smell musty, it most likely means that it was not dried properly. We are now receiving calls regarding musty odors in basements and mold concerns. With the warm, summer weather here, the humidity levels in Westchester county are going to remain high. That will become a huge problem for those property owners that did not address their water damage issues properly, or at all. So I guess we will just have to wait and see. Avoiding a problem never solves anything, it just makes a bigger mess; a bigger, more expensive mess!

Hi Michael,

You are so right about folks not addressing water intrusion problems, and homes needing to dry out. What most homeowners don't realize is that moisture can come from many different causes; from a leaky roof, to an inefficient building envelope, to poor ground drainage to improper combustion. Whatever the cause, it should be addressed. If not, their home will rot away, in many cases, they will not realize until serious (expensive damage) is caused.

By the way, I do alot of EIFS, stucco, and moisture intrusion inspections in your neck of the woods. I think Westchester is one of the most beautiful places to live, and I visit quite a few splendid homes there. I also inspect homes throughout Long Island (the Hamptons is also one of my favorites).

It amazes me how often I will be called to a home that looks fine, only to discover it is rotting away beneath the surface.

Good luck to you... Nice post!

Michael:

Luckily we don't have excessively humid summers.  We do get a lot of moisture here from fog in the summer and rain in the winter.  If a client tells me that they have a musty order that won't go away I tell them to have the problem fixed.  Don't let it get out of hand.
