I’ve got to admit, Reggie Sanders was one of my favorite Arizona Diamondbacks. His habit of looking at the top of his bat with every practice swing was a little disconcerting but there was no way not to be impressed by how he carried himself on and off the field.

Reggie retired in 2007 after a 17-year major league career but he continues to make his mark here. Which is why, when asked to write about a charity Wiffle Ball tournament that his foundation is co-sponsoring, I was more than happy to do so …
PHOENIX, AZ – (July 2, 2011, 2011) – The Reggie Sanders Charitable Fund, Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) and Big League Wiffle Ball are hosting a charity wiffle ball tournament to raise community awareness for autism and donations for the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC).
During MLB Weekend July 8-12, participants have the opportunity to play with former MLB players Reggie Sanders, Greg Swindell, Steve Finley, David Dellucci, Ray King, Russ Ortiz, Bert Campaneris, Dan O’Brien/Olympian and others.
Reggie is personally connected with SARRC, growing up with a brother with autism. He organized the event to create awareness and support for SARRC and its outreach programs.
The tournament’s going to be at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale, spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check-in and children’s activities begin at 8 a.m.
