Construction Update for the Pipe Jacking at Crescent Heights Boulevard and Saturn Street Project

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) expects to complete construction for the Pipe Jacking project at Crescent Heights Boulevard and Saturn Street by the end of November 2011.

Currently the contractor is completing excavation for the tunneling pits.  Tunneling from the launching pit at Crescent Heights and Cashio Street to the receiving pit at Crescent Heights and Saturn Street will start in approximately one month.  The final phase of construction will be to connect the tunneled pipe in Crescent Heights to the existing 60-inch diameter water lines in Saturn and Cashio Streets.

The Pipe Jacking Project will complete the 8-mile long Stone Hollywood Trunk Line (SHTL).  The SHTL will connect the Stone Canyon Reservoir and Hollywood Reservoir service areas as well as improve the reliability of the LADWP distribution system, provide operational flexibility and assist with future water quality improvement projects.

Groundbreaking for Pico and Hauser Retail Center

Groundbreaking at Pico and Hauser last month kicked off construction of for a new retail center – Wilshire Vista Plaza.  This new development replaces the Car-Nation auto body shop and is the first project in Council District 10 where an auto use is being replaced by retail development.

The project is expected to produce 500 construction jobs and 65 permanent jobs in the area.  Completion of the center is projected for April 2012.  Potential business tenants include Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Subway, cell phone companies and a bank.  This project is part of the Community Redevelopment Agency’s (CRA’s) Mid-City Redevelopment Project Area, which is working to bring long-term improvements along Pico Boulevard.
