Wordless Wednesday: Artichoke Flower

Just a few months ago we planted two artichoke plants in our San Diego backyard. I'm originally from Northern California and know artichokes grow well in central and coastal CA but did not know they grow so well here (like weeds). One of the plants is already as tall as I am and I'm pretty tall. I also did not know, if you do not cut the artichokes off the plant when they are ripe, that they will flower. Maybe I'm naive on that point, but the flower is beautiful! Here's one I used as a center piece for a bar-b-que we had the other night.

Wow, that's a beautiful shot. Looks like it should be falling from the sky (fireworks)! Definitely didn't know artichokes were flowering plants.

I am so happy to find out I'm not the only one who didn't know artichokes flower.

Not that that is much of an excuse because I doubt they grow in many other states.

Okay, bring on the melted butter!
