Driving 5,000 miles a month, believe me, I don't want to pay any more than I have to.!! And when I hear oil companies making record profits, that does upset me, BUT.... I must say, in comparison to other countries, our gas prices are amazingly cheap. I do not understand how other countries pay SO much more than we do, but I am grateful our prices are not in line with theirs!!
BTW, I see by being over the 10,000 points mark in SC, your in the top 30, congrats!!
Back on topic. We could eliminate the middle east from our oil picture in under ten years without altering our behavior. Of course, because oil is an international commodity, it wouldn't stop money from flowing there. However, if we announced the opening of ANWR and the continental shelf, oil would drop by 25% immediately, and probably by 40% within a couple of years. The magic number is $60/barrel, since that is the economically recoverable threshold for ANWR. OPEC would try to get back down under that number to try to keep us from actively drilling it.
