Timonium, MD Farmer's Market Is in Full Swing on Wednesday's 3pm-6pm
The Timonium, MD Farmer's Market is in full swing. Although the market is small, the produce is fresh and delicious. Every Wednesday from 3pm - 6 pm local farmer's and local businesses gather inside the main gate to the Maryland State Fairgrounds on York Road. This great venue has become a regular place for me to pick up my weeks vegetables.
The growing season is still early, but you can get fresh zucchini, yellow squash, baby cucumbers (perfect for pickling or salads), fresh onions, red chard, beets, garlic, tomatoes, corn, green and yellow beans, new potatoes, fresh from the tree peaches, raspberries and so much more. As summer moves on you'll be able to get other kinds of fruits and vegetables and perhaps the number of vendors will grow.
There are so many economic benefits to purchasing locally grown produce and locally produced products. The money you spend stays in the community and gets recirculated back into the community. Do you remember Richard Scarry's Busytown children's story? I used to read this book to my youngest son, Liam. We read it so many times that we wore the cover off of it, and he still has it (at age 13). What an amazing lesson to teach our children about economics, without them realizing we're teaching them anything.
In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables you can purchase locally produced wines from Basignani Winery and Boordy Vineyards and breads and cakes from Atwater's Bakery and southern baked goods from Quite a Stir Bakers. There's something for everyone.
