This is the first in our series of ActiveRain Tutorials, so I thought we'd start at the beginning.

Ima Realtor's Profile Image ComparisonI've set up a demonstration account for a fictitious agent named Ima Realtor. Hopefully the NAR won't make me change her last name. I like the way the name flows. :)

This video tutorial is not meant to cover every aspect of what you can or should do to make sure your profile is tuned to attract search engines. The goal is to illustrate how to utilize every inch of the real estate ActiveRain has provided to get the most from your profile content. From the beginning, you want to take up as much of the real estate as you can, paying close attention to how you want to be found on the Internet.

This video has a heavy focus on the profile photo and the quantity of content in your profile.

Why the photo?

Because it's a mini-billboard. If you're going to upload your personal photo, then you might as well make sure it works as hard for you as it can. Which photo on the right stands out most? There are lots of ways to make your photo stand out, but one of the keys is maximizing the space provided.

Why the quantity of content?

Because more content means more points and better visibility. The quality of the content and the quality of the links contained in that content is what will help drive the search engines to you, but when it comes to content, more is always better. Luckily, ActiveRain also rewards you for paying attention to this fact.

Now to the video:

It may be trivial for a lot but I learned a couple of things - number one that the amount of content you include in your profile makes a difference to the points you are getting there (for all of the point-hungry AR people here).

What program did you use to crop and resize the original photo?

btw - loved the Rain Storm at the beginning.

I wonder how the NAR would react if someone legally changed their name to "Ima Realtor".  :)

BTW - Nice post.

Hi Jeff, You just never stop impressing and amazing me.  Find anything that can be improved and you are right there with the right answer. I hope they get this cloning stuff down soon. We in this industry need to clone you so we can have lots of you going around and turning weakness into strength!

PS, Thanks for the code to put the shows on my site. I have the photos taken for about 10 subdivision listings I am currently working on.

Benjamin... I'd lose the dark background, personally... it seems ominous to me. Anyone else feel the same way? And, so long as you're asking, I'd either go a bit closer or just slightly farther. If you're going to go close, you want to make sure people know it was on purpose.  I do like the more casual photo better, however.

Jeff - sorry I'm laughing.....but you give us such a great amount of incredible information that you overload our circuits!  : )  I agree with you about Benjamin's dark packground.  I do like the close-up much better, without chopping off the chin.

Hi again Jeff, Bob Here this time.
Just to let you know we have repeatedly asked the Rain Gods about your claim on the max amount on the profile points but alas no reply that has explained it to us. We love your post but we can't seem to get to those max points in our profile for some reason. If you set up a new account it works great but us oldies it's not working for some reason. Thanks for the help but I guess we'll see what if anything they have to say about this. Maybe something has changed that we don't yet know about? My guess.....
We love the Real Estate Shows and utilize them all the time.

Jeff....sorry to bust in here:

Bob - it does work - I had 1450 points yesterday and added a lot of content to the profile to make it to the 1760.  It has to do with the amount of words added, so keep on going (I think you would agree I am an "oldie".......I never thought I would say that at 37)  : )

Veoh apprears to be having problems today. The videos are sometimes viewable and sometimes not. Be patient, I've not seen this from them before, so I can only assume they are working on something on their end. If this continues, I will load the videos into another player.

Great video, from the beginning, where all the faces of members become raindrops and then a deluge of rain, all the way to the end, where you talk about your goal to move Ima into position one in W. VA.  I especially liked the explanation of how to modify the photo to 170 x 170.
