Could Your Beauty Products Be Sapping Your Youth?
The worst offenders are emulsifiers, chemicals that allow oils and water to stay mixed. They break down the natural oils on skin, allowing water to evaporate and closing off cells so they can’t eliminate waste or take in nutrition. The result? Cells die prematurely, and skin gets thinner and thinner and more prone to wrinkles.
Here’s how to clean up your beauty routine.
- Watch out for PEGs. Polyethylene glycol not only affects your skin, it can also take a real toll on your health. It contains trace amounts of 1, 4-dioxane, a potential carcinogen that can damage the liver and kidneys. It can also impact the hormonal system and the brain, causing memory loss and creating a toxin burden in your body.
- Read your labels. You’ll find PEGs in many cosmetics, shampoos, conditioners, and tanning lotions — try to avoid anything that contains ingredients like monoethanolamine (MEA), diethanolamine (DEA), tetraethylammonium (TEA), or triethanolamine.
- Keep it natural. Organic is good, but Certified Toxic free is even better. Look for products that are certified toxic free and as natural as possible, to help keep chemicals out of your system.
