Then why on earth would you do business with one?
This is me, frustrated REALTOR who loves my clients and who works hard, everyday to make their dreams of homeownership a reality. I am pulling my hair out because I have a client with whom I have been working since the spring of 2007. She is a wonderful, bright woman. She has owned homes before.
Like I said, we have been in the building process since spring. Last Friday was her close date...theoretically.
It all started a while back. I and the builder we are working with had my client talk to our preferred lenders. All was well.
My client then, decided to go with someone she heard about from a "friend." Here we go.
That's fine, my client has right to choose her own lender. My assistant started keeping weekly tabs with the lender to make sure all information that was needed was available.
Then, two weeks ago during our weekly check-in, the lender asked my asst for the appraisal. What??? You, dear lender, schedule the appraisal. So, I set up the appraisal with a great appraiser that I know and call the lender back to order it.
Then, we asked for a commitment letter. We got told, "I gave that to you months ago." Oh dear. I explained what a commitment letter was and said that we really needed one.
Here we are on Tuesday. No closing, the lender says it is in underwriting still. They don't want her calling them bothering them anymore.
I'm sorry, did you ask why I am frustrated??? Because my client (whom I am loyal to) will not break up with her "lender."
She set a noon deadline last Friday, 3pm Friday, 5pm Friday, first thing Monday, end of the day Monday, noon on Tuesday and now end of the day today.
I have had it arranged since Thursday for one of my preferred lenders to take this loan and close it this week. My client won't budge.
Her lender insists that she has been doing business for somewhere between 13 and 15 years (it depends on who you asked. She has given different estimations). I had to talk her through ordering title, talking to the hazard insurance agent, ordering the appraisal, and my client keeps holding on.
It is sad really. Like a woman who is sleeping with a married man. A woman holding out hope that he really is going to leave his wife tomorrow, or next week, or after the kids graduate, or after...
It all brings me back to my original question. If you wouldn't date a liar why on earth would you do business with one??
Thanks for the rant room!
