I have been incredibly busy the past couple of weeks - in a good way, of course. Lots of clients needed to see homes, listing appointments, calls to make, files to update, you know the drill. But this past weekend I couldn't resist - I had to put it all away and get outside.
My son is the youngest of 5. As a 10 year old boy, he's incredibly aware of God's gifts - the beauty in a sunny day, the awesomeness of a heron flying across the creek, and the stillness of water.
Our outing was to Crow's Nest by canoe, a place I've written about before. We talked about Pocahontas' kidnapping, the Union Soldiers' encampments, and the two Civil War sites across the creek near our home.
"Belle Plains, which was a primary Union supply port during part of the 1864 Overland Campaign, is southwest of Boykin's Island. Belle Plains also became a holding area for thousands of Confederate prisoners captured at the Wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House. Waugh Point is east of Belle Plains, and was the site of Union First Corps camps, with 15,000 troops, during the winter of 1862-63."
We go out whenever we can but lately, it seems we go out less and less. I do know that when we get out there, I relish every second. Holding onto the memory of the time we have together. I can't think of a single place I'd rather be than here with my family.
It was a wonderful afternoon - some quiet time for reflection, fresh air, exercise and time with my son. And of course, let's not forget my very cute but not very bright dog, Ike. He always tags along - bringing up the rear!
