Los Angeles is caught in the middle of a hot and muggy heatwave. I've confined my morning walks to along the water's edge. Gosh, I've even allowed the tail end of a wave to wash over my New Balance running shoes. The chilly waters of the Pacific Ocean on the feet is welcome relief to the humid air caressing the rest of me. I noticed the smell of the ocean is even more prevalent when filled with heavy moisture.
Yesterday my walk coincided with low tide. I parked my car at Trump National Golf Course and took one of many beach access trails down the switchback dirt path to the sandy beach below. I walked with iPhone in hand and snapped pelicans and seagulls enjoying a leisurely breakfast as they searched the damp sand and shallow waters for tidbits of food.
The waves of low tide are not filled with the same fury as those that slam the shore at high tide. Just as I neared my "turn around point" I noticed a colorful spot on rocks only exposed at low tide. I ventured closer, iPhone camera snapping away to capture a sight usually covered by a protective coat of seawater.
Ahh, the luxury of coastal living on the Palos Verdes Peninsula is filled with so much more than a sought after residential area with top-rated schools. Being surrounded with natural beauty rivaling anywhere in the world is priceless. So goes the "magical" daily life of Palos Verdes residents.
