I have a little debate going on about the best use of your time during a down market...

Are you a person that goes back the basics?  Open Houses, Networking Groups...etc?

Or, do you spend your time & resources looking for the next best thing?  Website improvements, online advertising & lead gen. ?

What are you doing when business is slow?   Besides oversleeping...haha

Work, if business is slow, we need to work.  The best time to gain market share is during a slower market.

I focus each week some time on the business which includes looking at all of the options out there.  I also, spend time each week on the basics and on building my netowrk.  I do these things when times are slow, but also when they are not slow, because that is what keeps successful businesses sucessful!

One thing that I've noticed and being new on Active Rain is that no matter where Active Rain Members are from, they have all said its been slow....except for North Carolina, or thats the perception I've gotten. I am trying to use this time to re-connect with past clients, or so far at least thinking about doing it! Putting my dadta bases in order etc. Open Houses don't work in my market (80% gated communities) Internet is the only answer.

Trying to remain consistent and continuing to follow up on leads and look for new leads, keeping in touch with sphere, planning for the upcoming year.  No matter how slow it is in some markets, there is always something I can be doing.

I have continued to focus on my marketing (farming activities), update my website and work on SEO, post on Active Rain and anything else that can bring in a client.  I am still working with buyers and the last few months haven't been all that bad here in VA.  Actually I've had double the transactions as last year.

I have never stopped with the basics. It is tougher in this market and using all your tools available is the only way to go....yes, even open houses!

Network, network, network.  Whether thats on AR, at a cocktail party or at the supermarket always strive to continue building your SOI!

Increase marketing efforts, and work on "the next big thing".

I have been fortunate to achieve success during busy times by doing the basics... Right now it's the basics and online advertising, more writing, and media marketing (newspaper, etc.)
