Craig's Week in Tech - Newsletter

July 9, 2011 - Volume 1, Issue 6

Welcome

Wow! Sixth Issue of my weekly newsletter. I've been getting great feedback and so glad that you are all enjoying it. I've got my radar up all week for interesting stories. I monitor twitter, RSS, FB, and now Google+! Don't worry you don't have to digest it all in one setting. Pick the interesting links, come back for more later if you need more time :) Here's previous issues in case you missed...
Issue 1 :: Issue 2 :: Issue 3 :: Issue 4 :: Issue 5

Social Media Wars

Google+, in case you've been in a cave, is going full steam ahead. It's like Facebook but different in several significant ways. Many ARs (since you guys are so techy) are in and learning the ropes. Meanwhile, Facebook promoted their self-titled "awesome" release this week: You can now do (Skype) video calls within Facebook. If you've done your first FB vid call, share it in the comments. Like?

School Zone

We had another great webinar yesterday on making your blog posts appearance more interesting. Be sure to sign up for future webinar notiifcations, if you want to catch future ones (I'm covering all sorts of themes). I will record the classes at some point soon as I know it is hard for everyone to attend at the time that works for me. Meanwhile, the interaction of the live sessions I do like very much. Getting to know you guys better in class!

Agent Reboot

Inman is travelling around the country in a 24 city tour with its Agent Reboot program. Matthew Coates attended the one in Denver and he just posted an article with 26 takeaways that he had from it. Take a look and consider attending when it gets close to you too. And if you can't attend, well I'm sure you pick up a few good things from Matthew's post. Go over and look and leave him a comment! :)

Google+

Google+ is making quite a splash in the tech world. At the end of the week invites were opened up again so we had a whole bunch of new signups. Social Media Examiner again comes through with an excellent article, Getting Started in Google+. If you are a G+ newbie, check it out! :)

Mobile Websites

I'll keep mentioning it because I want you to be thinking about your web presence on a mobile device. I've talked about how QR codes should land on a page that is mobile optimized. That means NO pinch to zoom so you can read it! The discussion in this Robert Scoble video interview I thought was interesting for the Dudamobile service. I'm not endorsing them per-se as I have NOT used it. However the DISCUSSION is a valid one for all of us to consider.

Mountain of Agents

Reviews on the internet are very important these days. Buying something? How many reviews did it get? how many stars? If I'm an average person looking for a roofing contractor, dentist, or Realtor, don't you think I'm going to look for reviews. There are several different sites that you should consider parking your profile page so you have a chance to be found. Mountain of Agents is one I've recently discovered and you should check it out. I'll be writing a longer post on it soon.

Photosynth

A recent newsletter, I highlighted Photosynth app for iPhone. It is a very cool app that automatically stitch together a series of photos into a dynamic virtual experience. Once posted, you can use your mouse to pan around a scene in 360 degrees. Wende Schoof tested this for me and she posted a sample to share. I have all sorts of ideas for using this in RE Presentations!

Validation

Ok - tired of working all the time? - want a 15 minute diversion? This is a feel-good short film that I discovered via a tweet this week that somebody shared. I added it to my youtube favorites and thought I'd share it. It's called
Validation

Hi Craig--what catches my attention this week is the mobile optimized website.  Have this on my "to-do" list so it's a nice nudge to get it moving up the list.  Always such great information.  Thanks.

Great stuff Craig!  I love the format.  I know I have to be careful with my time as this stuff is like drinking from a firehose.  Keep it up, though :-)

Lots of great info except I clicked on Validation and spent was too much time viewing it.  Love "TJ" from Bones.

Thanks for the compilation, Craig. I'll have to check them all out.

I've skyped before, but not with clients yet. I think it may take some time getting used to. So far I haven't liked the way I look when skyping. If I was skyping with clients, I would prefer to do so with an office background.

Hey Craig - this rocks. Thanks for G-Plusing me. One more reason to settle down in the G-Cloud.

Lets talk about Photosynth....

Craig--a question that I can't find the answer to....how do you tell what posts you've suggested that become called shots? I do enough that I can't always go back and keep track...is there a quick and easy way to figure it out??
