With the Super Bowl coming here to Glendale in a few months, we have been contemplating renting out one of our investment properties and possibly our primary residence.  I have been watching Craigs List recently and the prices to rent a home out here for the week are staggering!

I can't help but think that I don't want to miss out on this opportunity...

Does anyone have any experience with this?  Or any tips?

Where is the best place to list your property and how can we best protect ourselves?

Any help / ideas / suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank,

Katie Marchione

Renee,

I keep hearing things about it, and everyone is telling us to do it.  I just want to get as much information as I can before we make any decisions.

Let me know if you hear anything from your friend!

Thanks for the response.

Hi Katie - There's another local agent here on A/R that's been posting his Super Bowl rentals. His name is Gaylen Thornton You could probably contact him for some advice.  He seems to know what he's doing.  Hope this helps - Good luck - Calie

P.S. As the founder of the A/R Group - Arizona's Community, thank you for posting in our group.  Take a look around, sit back and enjoy the benefits of being a part of this incredible community.

Hi Calie,

Thank you so much for the suggestion to contact Gaylen.

I am still learning the in's and out's of A/R, and having a blast!  I can't believe I didn't find it sooner!

No idea but it seems that finding someone who has done it or is doing it would be the best idea. haha..Good luck with the renting. I think it is a fantastic idea and I wouldn't pass on it either.

Hi Katie,

I have thought about this also.  My only question is - if you rent out your personal residence, where would you go?  Family, friends, neighbors, or would you take a family vacation that week?

Karen,

We are planning on going to my in-laws who live just a few miles away.  Lucky for us, we are close enough that we could drive by every so often and check the place out.

A vacation would be nice though too....maybe after....

I personally would be to afraid to rent out my PERSONAL residence to some out of town drinking Super Bowl partiers! ...Perhaps renting out a building where the owner has no idea that teh Super Bowl is coming, and then re-renting at a profit?

Kris,

Yes, that's our main hesitation.  However, I feel better knowing that there would be a substancial deposit required.

Good idea about renting out another building, but I'm thinking that most people know the superbowl is coming to town!  It's been all over the news for the past few months and I'm sure will gain even more attention as the time gets closer.

We'll see, our minds are not made up yet.

The only problem I see in renting out an investment home for Super Bowl is having an empty fully furnished home available.  I have a house in Glendale near the stadium and I am paying my tenant to live in a hotel for a week  so I can collect Super Bowl rents ($5,000) for a one week rental.  It is only going to cost me $300 to put him up in a weekly suite , and I am going to split the difference with my tenant.  So this month I am basically getting double rents!
