2011 MidUSA Ohio Challenge: Middletown Hosts Major Hot Air Balloon Festival July 15-17 2011

This may not be as big a hot air balloon event as the annual Albuquerque festival, but the 9th annual MidUSA Ohio Challenge Hot Air Balloon Festival is the next best thing for our area! Forty hot air balloons isn't bad!

Three days of hot air balloon related events will be held at the Middletown Regional Airport July 15-17 2011! And there's actually MUCH more than just hot air balloon activities at this festival! Skydivers, helicopter rides, circus activities, arts & crafts vendors and MORE!

Festival Hours:
Friday July 15 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Saturday July 16 6:45 a.m. 11 a.m, reopens 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Sunday July 17 6:45 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Cost:
Early morning 6-9 a.m. Saturday/Sunday FREE admission
Evening hours 4 - 10 p.m. $3, Kids under 13 FREE
OR, Vehicle parking $8 and includes admission for all occupants
OR RV parking on site, $20 nite, no sewer/water and limited spots.

Additional costs for special activities:
Helicopter rides: $35/person, minimum two people per 7-8 minute flight
Tethered Balloon rides: $5 children, $10 adults (weather permitting)
Skydiving Tandem jumps: $149 with coupon
Hot Air Balloon rides: $200/person

Parking: Via Germantown/SR4 at the Middletown Regional Airport entrance

Food:
Plenty of choices, the usual Festival fare: hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches, BBQ, funnel cakes, Deep Fried OREOS, and MUCH more!

Circus workshops, skydivers, Balloon Launch (7-8 p.m.), Balloon Blow (9:15-9:45 p.m)
Saturday
Pancake Breakfast, Balloon Launch (7 a.m.), Classic Car show (4-8 p.m.), Circus workshops, Murray Brothers Carnival (4 -10 p.m.), Skydivers, Kite flying, Balloon Launch (7-8 p.m.), Balloon Glow (9:15-9:45 p.m.)
Sunday
Balloon Launch (7 a.m.)

Nice local post. I love Hot Air Balloons. Got to ride in them a few years ago for a news story. It was so amazingly quiet - it looks like a great event for your community. And you're right - 40 Hot Air Balloons is pretty darn great!

Bliz ~ now that is one thing I would love to do, is see hot air ballons. I think there is some kind of annual event down in New Mexico every year. One of these days I would love to experience it.

Debb, Have not ridden in a hot air balloon YET! :) The price for a ride is a bit on the steep side, but the opportunity is readily available out here. Quite a few companies offer the service and not unusual to see balloons besides the RE/MAX one flying near our home!

Dawn, Albuquerque has a HUGE event every fall, way more than the 40 or so we'll have here. They get more of the special shaped balloons too. My day job company has our packaging facility there, but I've never been lucky enough to be visiting at the right time.

Endre, That's another someday when I've got a few c-notes to burn. Actually a better place for a balloon ride would probably be out in Sedona AZ! They have them there, but we didn't do it then either. Another bucket list item :)

Jane, We haven't yet, but would like to try it some day :)

Conrad, We see the RE/MAX balloon rather regularly around here. Back in 2004 the morning I was heading to start my r.e. classes it was in the sky as I drove, figured it was a good omen :)
