Snakes don't know it's Sunday

I left for work a couple of weeks ago, and I noticed a squiggly line out of the corner of my eye.  The landscaping is fairly pitiful right now, and the "grass" is only a clump here and a clump there.  What I noticed was a decent-sized black snake.  Nothing to scare me or anything ('cause I'm tough, you know)- but it was just odd seeing a snake out in the wide open.

The next day, snake again- and the next day again.  I got used to seeing a snake every morning- sometimes 2 of them.  Like clockwork, the slithery fellas would be there.  I joked one day that I wondered if they took weekends off- then reminded my crazy self that snakes don't know it's Sunday!

Today rolled around, and a different kind of snake reared his ugly head as yet another strange turn of events in our area's Casey Anthony circus. 42-year-old Melbourne resident Robert Hakimoglu is accused of punching a woman in the face during an argument over the verdict in the Casey Anthony case.

Sick...very sick. Violence in any regard isn't called for- but violence against women is abhorrent and violence against children is always disgusting.

Every now and then, I'll get this crazy thought in my head that the news will be nothing but good and happy- but it wasn't the case today.

....because snakes don't know it's Sunday.

Yes, I certainly get your point.  There are things that never take a day off.  And never lose a chance to try to cause damage and pain.

Good evening Dennis. Wouldn't it be nice to see a nightly tv show called "The Good News" that only told of the positive things happening. Evil never takes a day off but somedays it would be nice to turn it off.

Hi, Cheryl:  Thank you for stopping by, and for your comment.  It seems as if the bad guys never take a day off.  Makes it tough or nearly impossible for the good guys to rest.

Hi, Randy:  Thank you for stopping by, and for your comment.  I'll eschew the easy lay-up here- in just going with the easy reply that folks can get the "Good News" at places like my Aloma Church.  Another, semi-nostalgic comment, though, has me reminded of an old Anne Murray song called "A Little Good News".

And I don't know about others, but it's just really crazy to me how songs like that sounded corny and sappy years ago- yet so appropriate and relevant today.

Dennis...

I like snakes, and a good black snack will keep rodents and other more dangerous snakes away!

Hi, Richard:  Thank you for your comment.  I have always thought snakes were kinda cool- and clearly one of the most deceptive creatures out there (and not Biblically-speaking).  Having had a number of medical problems come upon me in the past few years- narcolepsy and a peripheral mononeuropathy to go with sleep apnea and epilepsy I've had for 10 years now- the neurotoxins and hemotoxins in snakes have  and their effects on the body has always intrigued me.  It's really something to how quickly those toxins can devastate the human body.

Hi, Tim:  thank you for stopping by, and for your comments.  Myself, I have a bi-pap for the sleep apnea- then Adderall and Modafinil for the narcolepsy and Neurontin for the neuropathy.  Gets tough sometimes- it's a tough combination of medicines.  But you deal with it and march on.
