New Proposed Tax Law that will affect Real Estate Agents

Attention All Real Estate Agents, especially those in the great State of Maryland.  The Governor(Martin O'Malley for those outside MD) has called a special legislative session that will begin on the 29th to discuss the $1.5+ Billion budget deficeit.  Recent discussions have been about raising taxes on everything you can imagine.  (O'Malley would tax the air we breathe if he could find a way)  After raising the sales tax to 6% from 5% and the gas tax(Like gas isn't expensive enough)the next tax proposed is a tax on services.  This includes everything from hair cuts, to massages, to you guessed it, real estate services.  This is just what the homebuyers of Maryland need, more taxes when buying a home.  Transfer taxes and recording taxes in this state are already some of the highest in the country.  The customer does not need another tax passed on to them to bail out the state.  You can help by contacting you state legislators and tell them not to support this bill or you will not support them.  If you are reading this and you are from another state, you could be next.  Don't let the politicians balance the budget on the backs of our real estate clients.  Make you voice heard.  Thanks and have a great day.

We're getting similar pressures here in Illinois. Mayor Daley is pushing property tax increases, the County board president Todd Stroger is also searching to fill a budget shortfall. Plus the City transfer taxes are huge in Chicago as well.

Perhaps if our politicians didn't hire and give big raises to all their buddies, our governments could balance their budgets the same way they expect all of us to balance our checkbooks.

Good luck to you.
