Mother Nature Leaves Her Mark . . . And it's Here for A While

I had the opportunity to play golf late Sunday afternoon at a course unfamiliar to both of us, which always makes for a challenge. New experiences, unfamiliar course, a lot of poor shot selections.

As we approached an elevated green, we noticed some rather strange markings burnt into the green.

It had the look left behind by ground moles when they get into a lawn, or water stains that flash dry. There was one tell tale mark that seemed to tell more of the story.

A bolt of lightening had hit the ground and the dissipation of the energy left the pattern burnt into the green. It killed the grass, which will take some time to grow back, but until it does, this will be a reminder to anyone out in an open area when those dark clouds approach to head for shelter quickly.

Ed, we were out in the above ground pool Saturday afternoon, and some dark clouds moved in overhead... no lightning, but we were not about to take the chance and cut short our summer fun for the day...

Hi Ed, don't play with Mother Nature.  That is amazing and one would have been a crispy critter if on the course when that struck.  You be very careful out there.

Ed - For a minute, I thought you had photographed my back yard.  I have been doing mortal battle with a mole at my home for several weeks now.  Thus far, the mole is winning!

Leah, I asked at the clubhouse is anyone was hurt and was told no, as the storm happened at dusk, and this was an early hole

Wanda, for sure, this trace was over 40' long

Jeff, it was a first for me as well, and it took a few moments to recognize it for what it was.

George, hope you're back with us soon, as it was working fine for me.

Juli, it was worthy of a photo and also a blog post.

Chris, that was a smart thing to do, as they can strike quickly and can be very deadly as well.

Tony, thanks for stopping, I lacked the vertical ability to get the entire strike in a photo

Ellie, this was a private course, so I wouldn't have been there except by invitation

Than, not seeing one like this before I had to pause and figure it out. The bug burn really helped.

Ted, holding a 1 iron would be safe, they are extremely difficult to hit.

Judith, I usually am, and the game got safer with the use of plastic spikes, even if they don't provide as much traction.

Hannah, the weather has been strange this year year

Donna, this scar was 40' long and with both arms almost as wide

Karen, only had the cell phone but it was working good enough for these

Chris, this isn't Nevada
