I had a great day in real estate today and it wasn't about making money but connecting with people and hearing their life situations.  In this business you meet all kinds of people and ever so often you meet exceptional people who touch your life.

One gal whom I had never met had been accessing my website and informed me she was no longer in the market to buy because she got engaged and was moving out of state.  I could hear the happiness in this woman's voice and in exchange made me happy for her.  Her excitement was contagious, give me more....  Then she told me her sister had referred me to her and when she gave me her sister's name and company I had absolutely no idea who she was or a thing about the company.  However, somebody some where thought I was great and that was enough for me.

Another gentleman was referred to me by the retired Realtor in the neighborhood called me and said he was getting ready to sell because he had fallen in love and wanted to move to be with her.  I was really happy for him, because I heard he had gotten a divorce and now he had a second chance at love.

Also on the same day, I got a call from a young man who had been referred to me by someone I had just met 3 days before.

By the end of the day I was floating on cloud 9 just from talking to these prospective clients and knowing I was the one they had seeked out to help them ease thru a life style transition.  What a compliment!

I understand this business isn't just about selling a home, but connecting to people by listening, helping, guiding, and giving myself and my time.  It does really pay off when you are honest and care!

What kind of compliments have you received in this business?

How do your referrals affect you?

Noelle-I delivered 4 inch potted Mums to my farm today.  When I was almost done, my cell phone started ringing.  It was a lady who lived in the neighborhood, who had come to my open house in that same neighborhood a week earlier and who I wrote a hand written Thank you card to for dropping by.  She wanted to Thank me for the beautiful flowers and told me that if she heard of anyone who needed to buy or sell she was absolutely going to refer me.  I was so thrilled to know that my efforts are paying off.  If anything, I hope the Mums will be a constant reminder of me.

I had a good one today.  When a lead comes in through my website, I of course send out a personal email with the first batch of listings and then get them set up for the auto-notification program.  A lead from over the weekend emailed me back today.  She said she had thought of buying a home a couple of years ago, but chickened out.  She decided that this time around she wanted to work with me because through my website and my email to her, she felt I was a very kind person.  That just made my day, sure I'd like to be seen as dynamic, successful, and other power words, but "kind" that was really nice!  So, I have her set up with a great lender now and we're off to see a home tomorrow.  Who said nice guys finish last!  Beth

I totally agree that compliments can make your day - even when it doesn't involve a sale....at least when you didn't think that in the beginning.

About a year and a half ago, clients came in to visit one of my open houses from back east. Since they were just out here to shop the market, before considering moving to Calabasas, we had a wonderful conversation about our children and their careers. We exchanged emails and phone numbers and they went on their way.

I emailed them periodically to check on them and on how their daughter's career was materializing. Then, they suddenly informed me that they were moving out here and said that since I was only the real estate agent who had stayed in constant communication with them (for almost two years), and had shown interest in them, they were going to use me for the purchase of a home.

Additionally, they were referred me to friends who needed to invest in commercial property. They have told me that they would always refer me to anyone that needed a real estate professional since I was so sincere and a cared about them.

In this business, you never know when just pure conversation and plain chit-chat can bring you unexpected business!

It certainly does pay off when you are sincerely interested in people and connect!

Hello Noelle,

Soon seniors will be able to use an FHA Reverse Mortgage to purchase a house.

-Already programs exist that allow seniors to get a reverse mortgage on a vacation or 2nd home.

-They can use that money from a reverse mortgage to buy another house from you.

Let me know if you would like to receive information so you can use this as a selling tool for senior home buyers.
