Blogging is big business these days. Real estate geeks like me are all about finding ways to gain search engine placement and be on top of the tech curve. Blogging is no exception.
There are so many blogging platforms available that it is overwhelming! I have had countless requests for guidance on where to blog and how to start. I instinctively recommend ActiveRain (AR). However, I use ActiveRain AND Wordpress blogging platforms.
I always recommend ActiveRain to the new blogger simply because it is a powerful platform. Likewise, the points system holds them accountable and helps them gauge their efforts. It is also a great place to see what other agents are doing and how their blogs look and read.
Meanwhile, Wordpress is my method of niche blogging. I create a specific blog that is tailored for SEO in a particular area. For example, Winston Salem Real Estate Update geared toward home sellers and Winston Salem House Hunter which caters to home buyers. These place well in the search engines and ultimately drive traffic back to my main site at Keller Williams Realty.
The main reason I love AcitveRain is that is allows me to blog about ANYTHING! The outside blog posts are catered to consumers and SEO. However, my favorite part is being able to blog to other agents and industry professionals. Sharing ideas and information. The comments part of ActiveRain is web 2.0 at its finest making the conversation a two way street.
I also use AR for posting listings. These posts do well with search engines and they do not gum up my consumer facing sites with homes they may not be interested in seeing. On those sites I would write about homes in that price range or style and share a link to those type of homes where my listing is included in the list.
In short I always recomend ActiveRain for any potential real estate blogger, and for the advanced techie exlore Wordpress too. However, do not get focused on one blog and neglect the others. Also it is great to link each of the sites together for SEO purposes. The internet is a big sea of clients, dont be afraid to spread you net wide.
