Housing for Homeless Veterans

By

Approximately 275,000 American vets are homeless, with mental health problems (including post-traumatic stress syndrome),  substance abuse problems and other problems that require treatment. While the VA is prepared to provide medical services, they do not address homelessness.

Soldier On is a non-profit organization that provides housing and support for veterans.  According to their website, "Our mission at Solider On is to offer a continuum of care that includes immediate and long-term housing, treatment and recovery for addiction, food, and clothing, as well as medical, counseling and job-related services."

Soldier On runs a 165 bed shelter in Leeds, MA and a transitional living facility for 71 homeless vets in Pittsfield, MA. In addition, they have developed a unique housing project, the Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Community in Pittsfield, MA,  that gives homeless vets an equity share in their own apartment, and incentives to help keep their lives on track.  Two additional communities are under construction.  You can view pictures and read more about the community HERE

Soldier On relies on donations from individuals, organizations and businesses.  You can Donate HERE.

Collen,

What an awesome mission to help folks who have served us. I will investigate to see if we have assistance like that in our area. Thanks for bringing this to the attention of the AR family.

That's great. It's a disgrace for our vets to be homeless after they have served our country. This seems to be a good organization.

Here is an idea?  Instead of banks and insurance companies paying for the naming rights to stadiums and coliseums, let's instead take that money and take care of our vets.  Simple right?  The banks clearly would do this since it is in the public good right?  Or would the upper fat cats not give up their perks to the ball park and all the freebies that come with it?

That is a great program, I am going to check into it further.  It is a shame that those that served our country are now homeless,.  We have a lot of homeless here in Naples as well, mostly men, Caucasian over 50!

Any legitimate program that helps our veterans earns my respect.  And, this is a great one.  Thanks for the shoutout on this.
