This is what we are looking for on other planets and will spend trillions and trillions of dollars to bring it back to earth to study when we do. When I look at this stuff, I wonder how it thrives? For instance what does it eat? Does it create waste? Is it symbiotic to the mountain? Why the green and orange colors? Why the mountain?
WHY AND HOW...?
In case you think it is only me, people are photographing this stuff all the time. Maybe it is eatable or worse, it eats you...?
A mystery! My grandma once had a car where some form of algae (she was told) began to grown inside the pane (or double pane) of the window on the passenger side. It looked like a beautiful crystal spider web, and it kept growing bigger, until her whole window had the appearance of a beautiful cracked crystal....but it could not be felt...it was on the inside. To this day it is still a mystery to me, and it made her famous among children every time she pulled up.....
