Whats Over the Horizon For The Housing Market?

Miniature Whitehouse Front View of President's House

Big Brother is once again shaking its head and shuffling it's feet for solutions to the slump in the housing market. Values continue to drop across the United States. Throw Money At It; Just Tweak It; Manipulate It A Little Bit and Leave It Alone And Let It Take Care Of Itself are all popular discussions among the ranks of our top Czars in Washington.

Throw Money At It - Bring back the tax incentives for home buyers like the $8,000. tax credit that was given to people who bought homes in 2009/2010.

Just Tweak It - Have mortgage giants Fannie and Freddie relax their rules for loans to investors. This will allow investors to soak up large swaths of foreclosure and bank owned properties. The rich get even richer.

Manipulate It A Little Bit - Have mortgage giants Fannie and Freddie hold back the glut of foreclosures on their books and rent them out. Reduce supply and you increase demand.

Leave It Alone And let it Take Care of It Self - That's what they have been doing for the past year. Top economist say it will take another decade or even longer to iron itself out.

Jim, I doubt we will ever see the tax incentives again.  As for relaxing the lending rules, we can only hope!
