Carmaggedon or The Real Rapture - Coming to a Freeway Near Your

Reblogger
Real Estate Agent with Dilbeck Real Estate CalBRE#01339470

As Jane says below, the 405 corridor will be something you want to avoid Friday thru the weekend - July 15th thru July 18th. I will not be accepting any appointments close to there. It will be like a truck stop. And anywhere around there will be a mess because everyone will have the same idea you have of trying to cut it short.
Here is the LA Times article about the 405 closure.

Original content by Jane Peters BRE# 01439865

Unless you have been asleep the last month or off the planet, you have no Traffic Jamdoubt heard of the hell that is about to hit Los Angeles next weekend.

Carmaggedon!

The 405 Freeway, otherwise known as The San Diego Freeway, is going to be shut down between the 10, otherwise known as The Santa Monica Freeway, and the 101, otherwise known as The Ventura Freeway.

This will effectively take place between 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15th through 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 18th.

When you hear terms like "mayhem", "streets will be slammed", "a real mess", "stay as far away from L.A. as possible", "mother of all traffic jams", gives you the warm and fuzzies doesn't it.

Buyers, don't even think of asking me to show you a home next weekend.

Listing agents, don't even bother having an open house next weekend.  If you can get there, take a book......

Hi Ken - We have been hearing about it on our news programs way up here in the Sacramento area, so you know they expect it to be bad.  From my experience spending many hours inching along on the 405 when I lived in So Cal, I can't imagine where all those folks are going to go with that freeway closed!

Omigosh! I just read the article in your link.  Sepulveda will be closed except for residents.  That is the only halfway sensible alternate I would have chosen if I were still down there.  I hope they are also publicizing that fact all over the place or there will be some frustrated and angry drivers.

Susan - Yes there are a few ways over the hill through the hills but everyone and their brother will try that. Laurel Canyon, Beverly Glen, Coldwater Canyon etc....
For the brave soul though.

And I actually have an agent in my office that has a daughter's boyfriend who is the engineer for this shin dig. It is well thought out but it will be making history for the longest length closure.

Oh forget it, it sounds like a good weekend to visit somewhere, anywhere but L.A.

I think we are going to find it was all a lot of fuss about nothing because no one is going to be driving that weekend.  But, just in case, stock up with food.....

Cynthia - I think you are right. I am sure I won't hear "I did not know about it"?

Jane - agreed but as much as I plan on staying away and I said I was not going down there, I have a client that is in from Boston and Friday is the ONLY day he can look. I hope hope it is early AM. And when I am done, I am going as far North to travel as I can. 118 hoeeee.
