Dumb questions from a Newbie..oh wait, there are no dumb...

Real Estate Broker/Owner with ViewHomes of Clark County - Nature As Neighbors

Newbie and dumb questionsDumb questions from a Newbie, oh wait there are no dumb questions.
Or are there? Maybe I’m just a dumb newbie.  Honestly, I’m still stumbling around at times in this community, but I thought I’d share a bit of what I’ve learned, and what I still have yet to learn.

AR Social Roster

Why do others seem to intuitively know how to find “new” members? (Other than digging around in the Newbie group or seeing an obvious “Hey, I’m new,” in a post title, how can you tell?)
Answer: You’ll find all members and the dates they joined in the Social Roster.

How long do I stay a newbie

While we're on the Newbie Topic, how long does a member remain in Newbie status?
I wish I knew the answer!

Why do people re-blog and do you ask that person’s permission first?
Answer: It’s good to re-blog, it promotes others, gets topics in front of a wider (new) audience. And you don’t have to ask first. (Bonus-You and your re-blogging pal will each get 25 points)

Anna Banana

If you feature or comment (favorably) say, about Anna Banana, or another member in your blog, is it wise to notify that individual? (It does appear to mitigate some of the good-will, as it almost seems that by “telling” them, you’re asking for a big thank you.) Honestly, I would never comment unfavorably about another member, but if I chose to provide a counterpoint, I would notify them as a courtesy.
Answer: Use your judgment, it varies. Sometimes people ask, sometimes they don’t. (But, remember the counterpoint rule)

Why do I keep getting “pear shaped” comments when I try to Debb Blogs in Active Raincustomize my outside blog with a header?
I wish I knew the answer!’

Craig's ClassroomWhy can’t I get my blog description, text version, to show up on the my blog page - right hand side? See Craig's cool insert?
I wish I knew the answer!

POINTSWhy do my blog posts vary in points? (Range from 200 to 225)
Answer:  200 for each post (up to 10 a week) and 225 if you include an Active Rain Channel.

Then why wouldn’t you include every post in an Active Rain Channel? (See above)
I wish I knew the answer!

FeaturedAre featured posts the reward for blogging?
Answer: While it's pretty cool to get a Featured post, the most important thing is to blog for SEO and to build your business. It's even better if you can help others out along the way. In fact, often, helping others helps you grow your business faster.

Why, why, why, why can’t I figure these things out on my own?
Answer: Why would you want to? There are many helpful people in Active Rain willing to share the answers.

Debb, it took me THREE YEARS to get to where you are now!     I signed up on my own, never knew how to navigate, or knew ANY of the rules!     It is just now starting to make sense, and love reading and learning here in the RAIN.   And, of course, meeting GREAT people!

Good Morning Debb,

Great questions and answers.  I did not know about the social roster.  See I just learned something new. When I had a couple of questions about my outside blog, I emailed Craig and he helped me out even with a personal telephone call.  He is awesome.  I am not so sure I understand about the Active Rain Channel either, but I am sure eventually I will find out.

The problem for me is time as it is for everyone, and to me things always seem to take 15 times longer than I thought they would when it comes to the computer and internet.

Debb, I had no idea the date joined was in the social roster!  I like that you point out sometimes the answer is "it depends" or "I don't know" :)

Joan, as always here you are with a kind and compassionate comment to share with me. I am so happy to have met you in Active Rain and have a good Real Estate source in Denver.

Mary, hurray, I was hoping to pass along something useful to someone, so I'm glad you learned about the Social Roster. And, yes Craig is great. However, like you, I don't always have the time to really investigate the why's and hows and such...eventually!

Diane, glad I could be of some help with the Social Roster information.  I certainly wish I knew all the answers...maybe someday. :)

You are way ahead of the curve Debb.  Good information for AR newbies and veterans alike.  Gave this a nudge.

Ah, sweet of you Anita. It's really tough trying to keep up with everything and learn so much stuff all the time. I wouldn't be doing quite as well without all the help and support of people such as yourself. Thanks for being one of my regular "atta girl" pals.

Debb, There's a Social Roster?  Am I on it?  They probably scratched off my name for bad titles and questionable topics.  Oh well, I just do what I do, because I want to do it.  YOU are doing great, learning at a blistering pace and will soon excel at all that you do.  I have enjoyed your videos, tremendously, and I look forward to seeing each new one that you release.  Your Co-Star is even doing better.  I have seen every one of them on your YouTube Channel.  Best wishes always.  P.s. Here comes another one of those questionable topic posts.  I am, who I am.

Richard, don't play dumb with me. You know very well that there is a Social Roster. In fact, your Newbie post is featured this morning - well done. Someday, I hope to grow up from a baby Newbie, into a very seasoned and often featured blogger such as yourself.

Thanks for the VBlogging encouragement. Yes, Mac is doing well better, and also looks much better on camera than his co-star. Darn dog!

And I know, it's good to be, "I am, who I am."  Popeye?
