"Leave short sales to the gluttons for punishment, and risk takers extraordinaire."

"Leave short sales to the gluttons for punishment, and risk takers extraordinaire. Life is too short already. ;-)..."

This was the comment I read this morning after a friend asked about short sale courses. Are Ohio Short Sales A Risk? I don't think so.

Telling someone not to do short sales is like telling someone not to be a fireman or a policeman, to my way of thinking. Either you were meant to be one or not. I personally do not like the process, but I love the results.

Everytime I help rescue a family from foreclosure, I know I have done the right thing.

Glutton for punishment? Risk taker extraordinaire? Hardly.

Just a professional who gives back, and one who really cares what happens to homeowners.

I'm in Ohio, doing short sales while they need done. Hopefully it won't be forever. (Yes, I sell all kinds of regular real estate, too!)

P.S. Disclaimer...I didn't say everyone should do short sales, just like everyone doesn't need to be a rescue worker.

Great thoughts. I have not yet been a part of such a transaction but honor those who do... I have a  type A personality and like to be able to control as much of the process as possible and understand that in short sales, quite a bit is "out of our hands" though the more experience an agent has with short sales, the smoother I am sure it goes... Just have not had one come along yet and for now will leave it to the brave, skilled "rescue workers" who do such good work.

Ellie, thanks for your comments. I agree, there is a lot out of our hands, but you are right. The more experience (and training) an agent has really helps. After what our family went through with our rentals during the real estate crash in 2007, I can't just leave people helpless. I know how it feels!!

Dawn....I am with you....I don't like to do them but getting them approved is a great feeling...and we have to help our clients.   IF a person doesn't feel comfortable there are all sorts of other agents who will co-list or help you out!   At least in my area!!!

Short sales are part of the current marketplace and they can be an important part of a sound business plan.  In NC, we do the marketing, field inquiries, take sign calls handle contract docuemnts - and let attorneys do the negotiation.  Once a foreclosure notice has been recieved, NC views short sale negotiation as the practice of law and REQUIRES an attorney to do it.

Hi Deborah, Does anyone like them? I think not. You are right about referring them, I have done that with other agents. It helps everyone.

Daniel, I wish the attorneys here would do them. When we refer them, they have been known to tell the client to just file BK. I had one who had my client pay him $2,000 to "help" her through her foreclosure. Not a short sale - he told her that her bank wouldn't do one, which was a lie.
