How to Add Copyright to Your Photos

I have received several emails from folks asking how I added copyright to my photos. It finally dawned on me that MAYBE that would be a helpful thing to put on my blog! So here it is!

Here’s a quick and easy (and did I mention FREE) way to add copyright information to your photos.

Step 1:   Go to www.Picnik.com and sign up for a FREE account.

Step 2:    Upload the photo that you would like to add your copyright info to.

Lake Conroe

Step 3:    On the Picnik toolbar, click on Create

Step 4:    On the Picnik toobar, click on Text

Step 5:   On the Left Margin you will see a place to type in Text. For MY copyright, I typed in:

Copyright (C) 2011 Joni Staples

P.S. You cannot use symbols in Picnik. They show up as question marks. That's why (C).

Step 6:    Click on ADD

The text will appear very large on the photo.  Just put your cursor on top of the text until you see the up/down arrow appear. When it appears, left click and drag the size of the text down to the size that you desire.

Put the cursor over the text again and move it around until you see the 4 way arrow (move). When you have the move sign, left click and drag the text to where you would like it to appear on the photo. You can also turn the text sideways by putting the cursor above the center of the text where the small circle is. Turn arrows will appear.

In this photo I also added a drop shadow frame just by clicking on create, frame, drop shadow and apply. Skip this if you do not want a frame.

Step 7:

On the Picnik toolbar, click on Save and Share. I changed the dimensions to a width of 625 (it will auto adjust the height.)  You can re-size smaller once you upload it to ActiveRain.

Step 8:    Click on Save

Make sure that the file folder displayed is the one where you want it to be saved.

Give it a new name (LakeConroe-CR)

Click on Save.

Your photo is now Copyrighted and ready for use!
