Machaceh Rescue Farm in Hayesville, NC

Machaceh Rescue Farm in Hayesville, NC is a nonprofit family based ministry that aids in the help and care of abused, neglected or unwanted animals. I found the Rescue Farm while previewing a home over in Clay County, NC and passed this great painted barn and just had to stop and take a photo of it.  That’s when I met Michelle Updike and she invite me in for a tour and introduced me to some of the animals there. Michelle’s passion for these animals is contagious. As she says “we fight and speak on the behalf of the animal because they have no voice to do so.” Machaceh is a Hebrew word meaning refuge, shelter from danger so that seems to be the perfect name for this wonderful ministry.

Machaceh Rescue Farm in Hayesville, NC 28904

The Machaceh Rescue Farm supplies emergency medical and surgical care to the many animals in need. They are able to run the farm through the help of volunteers, sponsors, donations and homemade products that they sell. They sell a variety of homemade jams, jellies and other canned items, baked goods, wooden roses, and hair bows and other wood crafts. The Machaceh Rescue Farm goes to different events setting up a petting zoo, horse rides and animal sponsorship programs making people aware of the mission of the Rescue Farm and the neglect to animals in their community. Many of the animals are rehabilitated back to good health and adopted back out to loving homes. The Machaceh Rescue Farm is also available for birthday parties, horse rides and horse riding lessons.

What an awesome thing to do.  And I feel like it's spoken to me... since I saw three goats today (in the road where they should NOT have been).  Then you have a photo of three little goats.

Lee and Carol, this is such a great post and suggested. We had an owner that had over 30 horses on his property. He had neglected and abused them....some were found dead, or barely alive.  THe ones they could save were removed from his property....what kind of people would hurt an animal?

What a great charity, Carol.  I know mechacheh also means "care" in Hebrew.  A very apt name for this farm.

What a great place to run across while out driving. In a perfect world there should be no need for rescue places like this, but because we don't, we are blessed to have people like this to take care of the unwanted and abused animals and then heighten our awareness.

We think so too, Tammy. You can't imagine the rescue stories and the animals they've saved. Those little cuties are so fun to watch running and climbing around in the play yard.

Thanks Rebecca. It is so sad how these creatures are being treated. The black & white horse, Mini-Me, here in the photos just had come to the Rescue Farm along with 30 others.

Refuge, care and love is what these animals are given too, Jane. One of their horses that was not able to be adopted out because he was in such bad shape physically and emotionally was left tied to a tree for at least a month and a half and was eating his feces to survive.

It really was a blessing for me Andrea. Jeff and Michelle Updike along with their children are making such a difference in this community and the lives of these animals. Machaceh Rescue Farm really is their passion and ministry. We are really fortunate to be able to sponsor them with the work and education they do.

Now see if only the Machaceh Rescue Farm were near me so I could take Jack there for a birthday pony ride!

How wonderful Carol!  People give up so much time and money volunteering and the rewards are so little. I'm glad you gave them a little publicity to help them out.

Andi, you can't imagine how much time and money it takes to keep the Machaceh Rescue Farm going. People will just drop off animals during the night and while I was there Michelle had three calls to pick up animals in need. More people in the community are hearing about the wonderful need they fill though and that helps tremendously.

Lee and Carol, it's good to see a place that can accept horses, goats and other animals rather than just the usual cats and dogs.

They have even had the Humane Society ask them to thake animals in terrible shape. The Machaceh Rescue Farm really is a refuge, Maria.

Carol, how special Machaceh Rescue farm is!  I love that they share their animals with different events - it's a win-win.  What a terrific hyper-local place you found.  Thanks for helping get the word out about them!
Pamela

P.S - had to hit that suggest button too!

Lee and I are really impressed with all this ministry and family are doing to rehabilitate, adopt out and educate the community through the Machaceh Rescue Farm. Another thing they are doing is working with handicapped and rehabilitation groups at the Farm. Thanks for hitting the suggest button too Pamela. Part of us sponsoring them is also wanting to let more people know what a wonderful place this is and to help support them.
