Anniversaries: Ed & Carmen Carter are celebrating an anniversary Friday- Ed will fill us in on the details next week. Announcements: Steve Stern- talked about the upcoming dining out at the Ale Roma Cuchina Restaurant on August 1st. 27 members have signed up so far. Cost $20/person includes: hors d'oeuvres, appetizer, a choice of 3 entres and hopefully a delicious desert. Duane McMurtrey talked about an upcoming golf tournament at Alta Vista Country Club on September 12th to benefit our returning troops. Duane is involved with an organization called Tee It Up For the Troops that raises funds to help meet the needs of returning military veterans. Today he also presented Bob Meyer with a check for $2000 to support Operation a Bit of Home. Wayne Silzel was our secret greeter and caught only poor Mariane Koepnick unaware. He also talked about an upcoming trip to Europe with the Muckenthaler Cultural Center. The trip feaures Austria, Germany, France and Switzerland and runs from December 9-17. Nagy Ibrahim spoke briefly about the upcoming programs, but also stressed the importance of attending make-up meetings at other clubs. Make-ups can also be done on-line. Ed Carter- reminded us about the upcoming Angel's game to support End Polio Now on August 20th. Millie Alexander and Mariane Koepnick expressed interest. Jay Applebaum updated us on progress with a possible International Matching Grant to help Operation Hope's future missions to Zimbabwe. Last week's speaker and Operation Hope Executive Director has given me Rotary contacts in Zimbabwe who are very interested in pursuing a grant. We have communicated and will start exploring the process of creating the grant. I am having lunch tomorrow with Orange North Rotarian Ken Caplin, who is a self proclaimed Grant maven. So we're off. I'll keep you updated on our progress. Hopefully, we can Skype with Jennifer while she's in Zimbabwe on her next mission so our club can get a sense of the life changing surgeries that her organization is performing. Pete Moriarty- Membership Chair - encouraged us all to keep recruiting new members. Our dining out on August 1st or Bob Meyer's presentation on July 28th provide an excellent opportunity to invite guests. Dan Friedl and Dale Dagley have now come to two meetings and have expressed interest in membership. Linda Bartrom-Olsen- is committed to getting a Rotaract back on track at Santiago Canyon College and Interact back at Lutheran HIgh.
Fall Festival Update: " An Evening of Giving" Jane McDonald- President-elect Date: October 6th Location: Anaheim Hills Golf Course Clubhouse Donations: Each member in the past has given either $250 in donations or donated goods Jane just encourages each member to do what they can. Diane Rothi was applauded for her kick-off donation of $300 Fundraising will consist of: Silent Auction- Wayne Silzel Chairperson- Wayne is asking all members to bring in a bottle of wine worth about $15 by Sept 15th for one wine rack he will auction. He also plans to have a tool kit with every day items. Mystery Bags- Tom Grundy Chairperson- items include dinner twofers, movie tickets, etc. Heads or Tails and Raise the Paddle donations- Jay Applebaum Chairperson Live Auction- Program- limited to listing corporate donors and member ads. Linda Bartrom-Olsen will create an article for the Villa Park Magazine, but other publicity is needed: signs, fliers, newspaper articles etc. For new members this is our big fund raiser for the year and the monies raised will all be used to fund our different club projects. We typically raise about $25,000 with ticket sales and donations.
Happy Bucks: Millie & Craig Alexander joined the Klugman's on a two week Mediterranean cruise. Will Warren was happy to announce that his bank finished #1 in the region.

Speaker: Teri Brooks CGscc Our own Teri Brooks is now a certified gemologist after taking classes at Santiago Canyon College. She talked very positively about the faculty and classes she took to obtain her certification. She explained how to evaluate stones, diamonds and other synthetic products. It was very educational and impressive to hear Teri speak about her new career.
