“We are thrilled to offer this special day for kids,” said Jim Justice, chairman and owner of The Greenbrier. “Our goal is to get them interested in golf and let them experience the excitement of The Greenbrier Classic.”

Polo Golf, the presenting sponsor of Youth Day, along with Greenbrier Classic sponsors Callaway Golf and Coca-Cola have partnered to present this family-oriented day. Highlights will include:

  • A junior clinic featuring two PGA TOUR players at 1:30 pm. Meadows #1  fairway;
  • at 3:00 pm, four POLO-sponsored TOUR players will be paired with four First Tee golfers from West Virginia and Roanoke, Virginia to compete in a three-hole scramble competition, and
  • throughout the day all in attendance will be able to enjoy watching the TOUR players practice and interact with the attendees on the course.

New this year is the POLO Golf Skills Challenge where four POLO-sponsored players will compete in a series of contests. This event will be held at 4:00 pm on #1 of the Meadows Course. The TOUR will produce a video of the competition which will be available on YouTube, greenbrier.com and polo.com.

“Youth Day at The Greenbrier Classic was such a powerful magnet in 2010 for attracting youth from all over the state to The First Tee and this year is expected to be even better,” explained Mike Mays, executive director of The First Tee of West Virginia. “Once we spark the interest of the children, with the help of their families, we can help them strengthen their character through The First Tee programs and its Nine Core Values and Nine Healthy Habits. We cannot thank Mr Justice and The Greenbrier Classic staff enough for creating this day to allow kids and families the opportunity to see the PGA TOUR and the First Tee up close.”

“All involved with the First Tee of Roanoke Valley are very honored to be included in such an exciting day celebrating the First Tee and the game of golf. It’s events like these that allow kids of all ages to learn valuable lessons through the game and have a great day with family and friends along the way.” said Jennifer Blackwood , executive director of The First Tee of Roanoke Valley.

Youth Day is open to all children for FREE, as well as the parents and chaperones accompanying the children.

Rebecca- I love the idea of The First Tee.  Not every child is exposed to golf or has the opportunity to play it.  I think knowing the game and how to play it can teach a child not only a sport but sportsmanship.

Rebecca, what a great post and hard work on your part. Nicely done! I grew up on the golf course playing with my Dad. What a wonderful program. My Dad was a firm believer in exposing children to diversity in life. He took me so many interesting places. Have a great week!
