Officials from The Greenbrier, PGA TOUR and The First Tee Chapters of West Virginia and Roanoke Valley, Virginia, announced today a special day of events for junior golfers and children and families interested in golf. The Greenbrier Classic’s Youth Day presented by Polo Golf will take place on Tuesday, July 26, at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, WV.
“We are thrilled to offer this special day for kids,” said Jim Justice, chairman and owner of The Greenbrier. “Our goal is to get them interested in golf and let them experience the excitement of The Greenbrier Classic.”
Polo Golf, the presenting sponsor of Youth Day, along with Greenbrier Classic sponsors Callaway Golf and Coca-Cola have partnered to present this family-oriented day. Highlights will include:
- A junior clinic featuring two PGA TOUR players at 1:30 pm. Meadows #1 fairway;
- at 3:00 pm, four POLO-sponsored TOUR players will be paired with four First Tee golfers from West Virginia and Roanoke, Virginia to compete in a three-hole scramble competition, and
- throughout the day all in attendance will be able to enjoy watching the TOUR players practice and interact with the attendees on the course.
New this year is the POLO Golf Skills Challenge where four POLO-sponsored players will compete in a series of contests. This event will be held at 4:00 pm on #1 of the Meadows Course. The TOUR will produce a video of the competition which will be available on YouTube, greenbrier.com and polo.com.
“Youth Day at The Greenbrier Classic was such a powerful magnet in 2010 for attracting youth from all over the state to The First Tee and this year is expected to be even better,” explained Mike Mays, executive director of The First Tee of West Virginia. “Once we spark the interest of the children, with the help of their families, we can help them strengthen their character through The First Tee programs and its Nine Core Values and Nine Healthy Habits. We cannot thank Mr Justice and The Greenbrier Classic staff enough for creating this day to allow kids and families the opportunity to see the PGA TOUR and the First Tee up close.”
