A Typical Day Off for a Real Estate Agent

By

What's a "typical" day off like for a real estate agent? Here in Balsam, mine started at 5:55am today.  I actually had the electric blanket on, can you believe it? The open window was letting 55 degee cool breezes in and after the heat wave we've had, the air felt pretty darned delicious.

Walking Dogs in Balsam | www.MoonDancerRealty.comAfter walking and feeding the dogs, I turned on the computer to check email and AR.  Sitting in the inbox was a notification from our MLS that the last listing we entered last night was marked to "45274(219 Indian Hills Drive WHITTIER) marked to not show for lack of a main view photo."  All I can say is GRRRRRR.  The terse email doesn't say that last night after 15 minutes of entering photos when Leslie clicked on SUBMIT, our MLS system went on the fritz and she lost all her work.  So....anyway, I logged (or attempted to log) into MLS to upload the photos and I got an error message that the server can't be located. MLS is still down.  That really stunk because I also needed to re-pull a CMA from May to send to our sellers and attach a message to it that the appraisal that just came in for the house was within a couple hundred dollars of our CMA. Score one for the REALTOR - and the crowd went wild lol. Okay it's not like I can't find something else to do.

No big, I worked on my AR post about Buyer Agent compensation instead. While doing that I also fielded calls about a price re-negotiation on a contract from the buyer's agent and the three sellers.  By this time, MLS was back up and we managed to get the photos in.

I made some grits for breakfast and then worked on setting up a schedule for the two separate buyers I'm working with tomorrow.

I talked to my Mom on the phone for a while.  She's riding almost 8 miles a day on her new bike.  Since she's in Port Charlotte she said it's too hot to ride any further than that until the weather cools off.  I caught her up on the contract that just got the appraisal back, the contract that's going through repair negotiations, the contract that's waiting for final lender approval, the buyer who wants to make an offer on Monday, the two new buyers tomorrow, the new listings and the rest of the day's plans.

I did a load of laundry for the dogs (we have two separate laundry rooms, one for dogs and one for humans).  I baked oatmeal cookies.  Baking Cookies | www.MoonDancerRealty.com

The response to our repair request came in and I got it conveyed to our sellers.  They were so cute, they were in the middle of a Harry Potter marathon because we suggested they watch all the movies to get ready for the last one.  The repairs are getting settled.

I made a light dinner, watched some sort of Marvel Comic superhero movie and then came over to the computer to get in another post.

Not all days off for real estate agents are like this, sometimes they're busier! ;-)

Now I'm just feelin' groovy!

Day off?  The only day off I ever get is when I'm on a plane and turn my cell phone off. At least we do it on our terms, it could be worse, we could punch a time clock and have someone tell us every little thing we have to do for only eight hours a day! :-)

Good Morning Michelle,  I'm not certain that work snuck in, I think it stomped in! But the upside is that there is work walking around however it wants to.

Hi Giovina, You are right - to some degree we have control of our schedule. At least we can pick and choose WHEN we answer the phone.  Its tough when we're in a somewhat "time sensitive" business.

Hello Anne, its really hard to not be productive. It doesn't matter if real estate is happening or not. Glad you liked the visit with Simon and Garfunkel.
