(Not So) Speechless Sunday in Bristol Tn Va.....The Quilt Trail!
I often run across a barn or two that have quilts displayed on them. They are normally barns that are still in really good shape. After some research, I found the history of these unique barns. The quilt squares on barns were originally meant as a tribute to a loved one and also to attract people to the country side. It started with a woman from Ohio named Donna Groves, who in 2001, wanted to paint a quilt square on her barn in order to honor her mother. Friends got together to paint and also envisioned a "trail of quilt barns".
Farmers also saw the benefit of this as a great way to pull people in to realize the beauty of their land and to honor a quilting tradition so popular in colonial times.
Thus began the tradition of painting a quilt square pattern on the side of barns! If you get a chance start following the quilt trail....You'll be glad you diud!
This is just another one of those traditions I will honor and enjoy by bringing you more photos of these great images of time going by in the Bristol TN/VA area.
