It's taken seven months for my blood donating to get back in sequence with the blood drives at my day job! I won't mention the name of the company specifically so I don't violate any corporate social media policies, but the first name starts with "J", there's an "&", and there's another "J". As a whole, they take their obligations to the community pretty seriously, with heavy United Way and blood donations as just a couple of key activities.
The two day blood drive this week resulted in 136 units of blood counting the one they got from me! That SEEMS like quite a bit, that's over 10% of the company giving this week, and others give "off schedule". But factor in that Hoxworth Blood Centers supply 31 area hospitals, that's only a little over 4 units per hospital. Obviously the demand is MUCH higher than that just one a daily basis!
We know many people CAN'T give blood for a whole host of reasons, but if you CAN, please do! It's good for you both physically and emotionally to give, and you just might be saving someone's life!
So reach out to your local blood center or hospital! They'll be able to take care of you, and despite what you might think about needles, they're not that bad. Just look away for a second, you'll hardly feel it, and you'll be done within about 10 minutes or less!
"I do not share my stories of paying it forward for recognition. I share them so that others might be inspired to do what they can, when they can, where they can. No more, no less." Tish Lloyd, North Carolina REALTOR® Paying It Forward a pint at a time! Bill of Liz and Bill aka BLiz

BLiz: Giving blood is a wonderful thing to do. Vacation season sees a huge drop in donations. I will look for a local center tomorrow! Just imagine what could be accomplished if every single person found some way, however small, to pay it forward everyday! The world would be a much different place.
Kathy, It's one of the easiest things we can do. No charge to us and it accomplishes something critical for the community.
Tom, I had a stretch of a few years where I was banned for some liver enzyme test. They finally cleared me again back in 2001, so been at it ever since.
Kathy, Thanks! Every donation helps :)
Anne, And the summer months are probably when demand is highest. Thanks for helping!
B&L - Being 0+ (a universal doner) they love when I give blood! However, soon I will be donating my kidney to my sister and law, and I've never had to give so many blood samples in my life! For anyone who thinks it's painful (giving blood that is), it's really not - barely a prick and it's for such a good cause - saving lives!
Good Morning, Bliz. Our Blood Banks can always use some more blood donors, and you have given to a very worthy cause. It's been awhile since I have donated, but it's a good idea to go and see if I met those donor qualifications. You are right about the many reasons for not being an acceptable donor.
I probably could...I am just so skittish on stuff like that...just posted on Kristine's wall about having fears of physical things too...I'm a loser....lol
Anita, I know I have to explain my Navy travels to Britain, but fortunately I didn't stay long enough to get on the banned list from giving.
Cindy, Just look to the right as they put it in your left arm! They're QUITE proficient, and if you pass out, they're trained on how to handle it....you know the usual stuff, compromising photos, use your cell phone to make crank calls, etc. :)
Liz & Bill- I haven't given blood in a long time so thanks for the reminder. I remember I gave in high school one time and then went to baseketball practice. Not a good idea!
I'm scheduled for Wednesday! Hopefully I can give this time - my iron was too low last time (steak for dinner tonight!). Thanks for the reminder - it's such as easy way to give back for those of us who can. (And BTW there is evidently a nationwide shortage for 'O' type blood)
Margie, Agree, NOT a good idea! No mowing the lawn either. Wheeeeee!!! :)
Carrie, Thanks for giving! I think there's ALWAYS a shortage, especially that universal O. I'm A- myself, and that seems to be high demand. I almost always get a reminder call within a day or two of being eligible to give again :)
OH, I LOVE this post--and a great video to go along with it!
For YEARS, I was anemic (plenty energetic but, anemic from interior issues!) and could not donate. I am now healthy and able to give and LOVE doing this! After working in a trauma operating room for years, I KNOW how badly these folks need your blood and blood products. What a great way to give back to the community--and easy too!

Thank you for the reminder. It hasn't been top of mind lately, but I will make a commitment to get this done.

Hi Guys,
I give blood when ever I can. Just to think there might be someone in the community with "MY" blood in them makes me think "poor fellow" LOL
Have a great Sunday. Sounds like the drive was a success.

Bliz, I so admire those who do... because I can't.

What a great reminder to get mine scheduled. And, I bet this reminds a few others. Great job, Bliz.
That is just terrific Bliz! Donating blood is so important! I try...but a lot of the times I can't give....but I do try :)!
Kristine, Obviously our hats off to you! You're going WAY beyond blood donation!
Jerry, It does get old having to explain my Navy travels every time :)
Ellie, Liz can't either. Her iron is usually too low.
Michelle, Every 8-9 weeks they get another pint. Piece o cake!
Juli, Always happy if our posts trigger a few more donations :)
Brenda, And at least you're making the effort :)
I would love to but can't. I admire those of you that can and DO. Well done!

Whoever gets your blood will probably start blogging immediately. Right there on the operating table.
Dave, LOL! I think that blogging gene is firmly embedded now :)
