Save your money and send your database fewer mailings.

Send a mailing four times a year and replace the rest of your mailings with email and a couple of phone calls. Be sure to respond to your email within two hours. If you don't, your competition will! Rather than having your phone calls look so self-serving (asking for referrals and future business), instead ask which of the free services would be of particular interest to them this year. This, of course, leads into the question: Will they be considering buying and selling in the next year and do they know of anyone else thinking about buying or selling in the next year?

Hmm... I dunno - all the marketing courses I've ever taken have always stressed the need for consistent mailings - I've always heard that if you weren't going to do at least 12 mailings/year then you shouldn't bother to do any mailings at all... I've recently stopped using a very expensive newsletter company and switched to Sendsations www.sendsations.com - they're cheap and excellent... they send out postcards every month to your database - you get to choose what type of postcards are used...

And then of course you supplement the mailings with other things  such as phone calls and emails...  A down market is the worst time to cut back on advertising...

Good luck with your marketing!

I agree that the more mailings the better.  This is just a way to save a little money.

I also agree with the more mailings per year the better. It's really all about being at the right place at the right time.  Because of my regular mailouts to my neighborhood, my neighbors all know my name AND I dominate the neighborhood.
