Waking up to Nature is Wonderful!

Waking up to nature is always wonderful. Every days I find some form of animal activities either on my rear deck or in the rear yard. If I every get the courage to take a photo of a skunk, I will post but they are always  too close for my comfort.

The hawk visits my back yard daily due to the abundance of rabbits in the area. Don't let the photo fool you, this bird is very large.

There has to be about 100 or more living in a very small patch of woods separating the two properties. Of course, the vultures are always around since the life span of the rabbits seem to be short. Everyday there is a new road kill at the end of the driveway.

Road Kill

The dears are just beautiful. There is a small herd in the patch of woods in my backyard that comes out everyday and graze the rear lawn for the clovers, etc. Two of the does have rambunctious twins and spend most of their time near my rear deck frolicking around with no worries. If my dog is in the back yard, they chase each other around the yard for several minutes until the mother comes out and scares him away. The buck is growing his antlers. This year, it should be pretty big. Most likley not 8 points but it should be impressive.

The pictures are wonderful! I see deer and rabbits, foxes, all kinds of birds every day as I walk through out our development where I live in Northern Virginia. The pictures do remind me of one time a few years ago when picking blue berries in a Northern Michigan Forest, I looked up and there was a skunk.... He couldn't have been 30 feet away. Needless to say, I quietly walked in the other direction. Thanks for the post!

The skunk are worst than rabbits in this area. My dog thinks it is cute until he gets sprayed. Then I have to deal with the odor on the deck for a day or two. Wish he would pick he playmates more carefully.
