Attack of The 50 Foot Tall Spam Commenter!!
Okay, so those spammers may NOT be 50 foot tall! In fact, they're probably just composed of a bunch of lines of software code, but those rodents of questionable parentage behind the code have been hitting our blog posts HARD over the weekend and into today! Multiple comments of worthless value on some posts, and they're reaching all the way back to some of our first posts! Literally about 200 spam comments so far!
And following the comment links back to some of those early posts?? Ouch!! Those weren't pretty posts! Things have changed a lot since then! Color thanks to Scribefire, better pictures, spacing around those pictures, etc. The skills you learn as you blog regularly!
And speaking of the things you learn, you might not know the way to properly handle Spam Comments on Active Rain! First, you curse them and their ancestors for being a worthless waste of humanity. Okay, done with that part? Now here's the part that counts:
In the bottom right hand corner of the comment you'll see "Report a Concern". Click that! Then you'll get a pop up window, Click "OK". Then you'll notice "Report a Concern" changes to "Report Received". Now DON'T delete the comment. Just leave it there, and here's why: You get 10 bonus points for reporting spam AND it helps the AR team identify the source of the spam. If we're lucky, they can identify the offending I.P. address and block it off.
Now the spammers WILL come back, they're like cockroaches (sorry cockroaches, don't mean to INSULT you like that!), but just keep following the process.
Collect your 10 points for each comment, help make their life more difficult, and SMILE! :)
