I challenge all of you to do the following within the next 24 hours (I'm doing it, you can too) and let me know your results.

1.  Send a handwritten note to someone

2. Add 3 names to your database

3.  Change your voice mail message

4. Hand out one business card to a perfect stranger

5.  Call a past client and don't talk about business

 

This is the beginning of a habit.  Do this 3 times per week (takes about 45 minutes to complete).

In three months, you'll have added 100+ names to your database, given your card to over 30 people who would have never received it, and deepened your relationships with 60 others by calling and sending handwritten notes.

The top 20% in any sales industry do all of the above (or slight variations) daily.

I hope this inspires some of you to get started on a routine.

John, this is a great idea.  I like the idea of setting a challenge so you have a definitely goal for each day or week.  This is not a lot of time to do this so it is something that you can easily get in the habit of doing.

Sounds like Joe Stumpt has put a spell on you?  The "By Referral Only" people teach this...and it is an excellent tool.

John, all great points, except the changing of the voicemail message. Three times a week would seem a bit excessive to me. It took me a long time to get it just right.

Sandy:  Yes I know some people like to keep it the same...I actually change mine everyday so that I can update my clients on my daily schedule and when I will be returning phone calls.  I get comments every week from my clients about how much they like it, and my referral partners always tell me "I'm going to do that".
