Someone ask me today that since I am a Certified EcoBroker, if that means that now I'm an extreme environmentalist?? I was kinda of stumped for a minute.......I told her that I really don't consider myself a total environmentalist, however I do think that we should all do our part to help save energy and resources. After all, if only half of what they say about global warming is true, then don't we owe it to our children and their children to at least do our part. Yes, for some of the things like running your home off the grid, installing a lot of solar panels, replacing windows, etc. can end up costing a good sum of money. Although I think in the long run it would still save even more. There are things that anyone can do with little or no money......Change the lightbulbs in your home to the Energy Star bulbs, keep your hot water heater at 120 degrees. When replacing appliances, replace with energy saving Energy Star appliances. Have a check up done on your heating and cooling system, turn off lights when not in the room, recycle

If saving the environment is not a motivator for you, then maybe saving money will be......These little things that make a difference on your utility bill.

Make a Difference!

Sherry - how true it is that everyone thinks we are TreeHuggers! not that it's a bad thing! I am in agreement that the environment is not the only focus in this quest. Money savings are a huge motivator. For me it is also the security of knowing I will be able to flip a light switch on 10 years from now and have power. When we are in an energy crisis it will be too late.

Sherry~

Thanks for sharing your story with us. Real estate professionals stand at the doorway of change...and we have wonderful opportunities to bring common sense into house and home...

Sherry - I get that same question and while I sometimes start to take offense I also know that I am at least doing my part to promote a much needed change in our world.  I lived the green life long before I became an EcoBroker and the moment I heard about EcoBroker I knew it was for me.  Those who don't like what I do don't have to work with me, but I do not turn down clients because they are not green.

I don't get it - why would someone ask you that? Don't they realize how close to the edge we are getting ourselves? If we don't all pitch in and attempt to turn things around, I feel sorry for your grandkids - what will we be leaving them????

Mary-Your so right, its about still having it in the future

JaneAnne-I think EcoBroker can make a huge difference, as you said by bringing common sense into home ownership

Andrew-I did the same thing, as soon as I read about the EcoBroker, I knew that it was exactly what I wanted

Bill & Barbara Jo--No, a lot of people really don't give it a second thought, and hopefully we can help change some of that.

Some folks just love to lump others together into a general category.  It's a form of name-calling to say you're a "tree-hugger" or "bleeding heart liberal" if you consider yourself pro-environment.  I'd just ignore those kinds of comments.

No one has ever been mean about it, just some don't really understand which gives me a great chance to explain it to them

Sherry - I am new to the Realtor world, long an environmentalist... and very glad the two are merging for many people.  The more I travel and see just how badly we have treated our home, the more concerned I become about where we are today... we have a lot to address.  Thanks for your post.

Eva-I think a lot of people are starting to see the light when it comes to the environment and their homes. My goal would be to bring that light out a little better and brighter.

Most people, most of the time, just don't think. Often when they say things they don't listen to what they are saying, and I think lots of people are afraid of the world. I have been asked questions about my environmental philosophy, and sometimes I know that the questioner is really looking to pick a fight, but often they just never really even thought about having any personal philosophy about the environment themselves. We need to softly, carefully, help these people to learn, and, if possible, to think.

Woe be the ones that want to pick a fight. I actually pulled out the "big guns" one day... Thats right, The DUCK BILLED PLATYPUS.

Oops, there is a post I need to write!

It's cool, call my a tree hugger if you want, if that is the limit that you want to put on your understanding of me, I can't stop you, But that is a rather small lens and you might miss some details trying to see me through it.

Hi Sherry,  I think Eco Minded agents can help get rid of the environmentalist tag.  We can show them the advantages and how it is for everyone.  Congrats on the designation!

Michael--Yes, I think people listen a lot more if its not being pushed down their throat, but instead approached in a friendly, helpful way.

Stephanie--Your right, there are so many advantages for everyone, whether they consider themselves environmentalists or not. Thanks, I'm really passionate about this one.

I get asked on occasion if I'm an environmentalist. I'm not, I don't like the label or any labels. I always tell people I'm trying to do the right thing.
